I'm sure this opening paragraph has the world's film and music industries breathing a sigh of relief.

"DVD? DVD?"
The offer of pirated DVDs used to be common in Beijing, but since the Olympic crackdown hit the city, the solicitation by the man sitting outside the Friendship Store in the Chinese capital has become a rare refrain.

Interestingly enough, it seems like virtually every single bootlegger in both Chinatowns here this weekend were already selling full-length DVDs of the opening ceremonies  .

Yes, but presumably that's the somewhat comprimised CCTV version with Swedish-directed inserts? At least the good folks at the Chinese malls here sharp enough to record most of the North American feeds of the opening ceremony (judging by the multitude of network IDs seen on video playing on virtually every TV in every shop in every Chinese mall you'd care to visit were any indication!)

Still, that official DVD is tempting.

Speaking of the Fuwas, I'm half-kicking myself for not completing the whole set of Fuwa-emblazoned glasses offered at McDonald's here in Canada, but living and working in densely Chinese-populated communities, this gweilo probably never had a chance. For once, and compared to most premiums you find in fast food joints, they actually beat the offerings of McD's in most other countries hands down. Quality stuff. Now, of course, they're selling on like hotcakes on ebay.
