Since the organizers and the politicians are obsessed with national pride and saving face and perceptions-over-reality above all else, they've now got a golden opportunity to counter a lot of the bad publicity they're receiving over this and other issues surrounding the games (not to mention their reputation as a land of fakes) by having both Wang Peiyi and Lin Miaoke perform in the closing ceremonies, so we can see and hear them both. Guaranteed the collective "awwwww" from the world will work wonders on China's "face" and might even help offset the loss of self-respect these girls are bound to feel either now, or when they grow up and read the plentiful stories and watch the plentiful videos that are now archived on the internet for the ages . Fingers crossed.
