The Coffin, a sensational supernatural Thai flick which may see a remake in America

Singaporeans are big on "The Coffin"

Rest in peace
Karen Mok is Zoe, the Hongkonger with cancer who has run off to Thailand to avoid getting married and telling her intended about her illness. Ananda Everingham is Chris, a young Thai man who is desperate to save his dying Japanese girlfriend.
The two, in an attempt to escape death and reverse bad fortune, try out the real-life Thai ritual of lying in a coffin during a mass fake funeral.
Bad things happen after that, of course.
"The Coffin" is director Ekachai Uekrongtham’s ("Beautiful Boxer") No 1 Thai hit that unfortunately rides the Asian supernatural horror wagon to a rather disappointing destination. The premise is scary enough ... but all the good bits are already in the trailer.
Ekachai, well-known as the artistic director of Singapore’s Action Theatre, has an obvious visual eye for small gestures and a deftness at portraying claustrophobia, but his handling of this horror flick feels a little mechanical and almost plodding, as if he was going through a play-by-play checklist of horror must-haves.
The cast also seems a tad self-involved, acting rather than reacting to the already blatant set-ups and bloodcurdling sound effects.
That said, horror rarely looks this good. Everingham and Mok are gorgeous, which works for the genre because nobody feels bad when scary things happen to ugly people.
