Another classic from the Jacky Wong canon. VLC won't play the first disc, so here's the front sleeve, enlarged credits off the rear sleeve and the closing credits.

Thanks for that!

It looks like both films in this series are now in the DB. I could've sworn neither of them were here before. I will upload additional info for the other one (PERFECT SKILL) in the next day or so. ;)

ALSO, changed production year on this and the sequel to 1999. As per above.

What is this problem you have with playing first discs, I wonder? There shouldn't really be any difference between a first disc and a second disc, except there might be some additional streams first like trailers/distributor logo... is it that it plays the wrong thing, or that it won't play the disc at all?

Are you using VLC because you're on a Mac? You might want to look at Mplayer OSX instead (I've never held a high opinion of VLC). I got a Macbook recently, and haven't actually tried playing a DVD on it yet, but have used Mplayer for other movie types and it seems like a better piece of software.

Problem playing discs, VCD and DVD, is a problem that pop up from time to time when playing them in a DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM just have problems reading certain discs, the player is not the problem, just the reading of the disc, I've had this problem myself several times.
Usually occurs at the beginning or the end of a disc, standalone DVD players on the other hand have no problem reading them most of the time, so it's probably just a matter of a bad pressing or something.

The problem with the first discs on both GAMBLER SERIES films occurs about 20 seconds in to the main feature (after the legal warning and the company logo, which are each separate titles). On my stand-alone player, the discs just stop. Hitting play again does nothing, so I have to hit stop again, then play from the beginning. The only way around it was to start the movie, then force the disc to jump to the 22 or 24-second mark using the search function, after which they play fine. As these are technically Bearserk's discs, he may have a different experience, but if it does occur, at least he'll know the way around it.

On my computer, which is indeed a Mac running VLC, the main feature (Title 0, I believe) won't play at all on the first discs. I can jump to Title 1 (the warning) or Title 2, the logo, but any attempt to access Title 0 stops the disc.

I think in some cases, as Bearserk says, some discs are just like this. Usually, they'll play on one or the other, but sometimes, they get stuck no matter where I put them.

I have run into this problem in the past, as you've probably noticed, but to be honest, for several months running the program, I didn't realize there were two menu areas in VLC from which to change the Title tracks—one menu calls them video tracks—so some of my early experiences may have been avoidable, but I was generally able to provide enough info from sleeves and closing credits to complete the DB entries. Always a bonus when the closing credits repeat the opening ones, too.

I'd definitely be interested in other players, including Mplayer OSX. Is that a freebie like VLC, though? 'Cause I'm not big on blowing big money to capture screen shots from films like LEGEND ABOUT HUNTING GHOST etc.
