I found this movie on VCD (I suppose it's a Taiwanese movie). It both an epic war and huangmei diao movie. Can somebody create a base for it? Thanks in advance!

Wang Fu-Rong

Actor
The Story of Ping Gui (1967)

Merged -> Elizabeth Wong Fook-Yung

I'm pretty sure that Zestbase vcd cover is a bootleg. I bought their Lady Jade Locket and Goddess of Mercy long before IVL/Celestial came out with their Shaw titles. They have the same white cover format, too.

The technical quality of Zestbase VCD was absolutly terrible, but I think they had the rights to distribute the movies at that time. But they didn't have good material sources. Obviously.

You may be right but I'm sceptical...even though one of my discs has the tax stamp on it. Out of curiousity, I turned this up:

Shaw Brothers, or for that matter, the Shaw Organisation, had the habit of vaulting its productions, once they had made their usual run. Up to the late 1970s, it would still periodically re-release memorable classics such as The Love Eterne (Images 10.00 to 10.06), The Kingdom and the Beauty (1959; Image 7.00), The Magnificent Concubine (1961; Image 8.00) — all directed by Li Hanxiang. This practice stopped with the advent of video and related reproduction technologies. Into the 1980s, Shaw Brothers’ new releases began to dwindle in supply as the studio started to scale down its production operation, eventually closing down in 1985.[7] This, together with the notable absence of Shaw films in the broadcast media and the video markets, precipitated their disappearance from the Chinese language media-scape, save for the few that video bootleggers in Malaysia and Taiwan somehow managed to gain access to.[8]

8. Bootleg videos were usually reproduced from old and sometimes deteriorated film prints, including The Dawn Will Come (1966) and The Perfumed Arrow (1967) which, at the time of writing this paper, have yet to be released by Celestial Pictures. I unwittingly purchased them while in Singapore in the late 1990s. During a trip to Hong Kong around this time, I also saw them for sale in video stores. I found out that they were bootleg copies inadvertently. This occurred when I contacted Zestbase Entertainment Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia). At the time, I had hoped to add more erstwhile Shaw films (on video-related format) to my collection. The VCD sleeve for The Dawn Will Come and The Perfumed Arrow names Zestbase as the distributor; it also prints the company’s address, telephone number and fax number. This notwithstanding, Zestbase was quick to disassociate itself from these titles.
