Staring Shu Qi

Joey Cheng (Shu Qi) has been dumped by her Hong Kong boyfriend Sam (Jesdaporn Pholdee aka Tik) and attempts suicide in a Bangkok hotel but survives. She regrets her folly and determines to start life afresh when she realises she is carrying Sam's child, and that she is harrassed by one particular female spirit (Eugenia Yuan).

This results in Joey finding herself in several peculiar situations, but everyone else around her finds logical reasons to brush the experiences aside. But Joey is left traumatised with her new-found ability to see ghosts. On one occasion, she is trapped in a lift when a pregnant woman in there with her goes into labour. Just as the baby is about to be born, Joey sees a spirit emerge from the ceiling of the lift and going for the emerging child.

Complications, however, result in the baby being still-born and the spirit leaves. Desperate for an answer, Joey seeks the help of a Buddhist monk (who, for some reason, sports chin-length hair and a carpenter's jumpsuit) who explains that beside every pregnant woman stands a spirit awaiting its reincarnation in the baby. Joey then realises the mysterious spirit following her will become her baby and decides to find out more about it - and it may not be a truth she can handle.
