Well, I guess I'm up for keeping this thread alive until we can start the 2007 thread!
While it will be sad to see you go Mike (if you're even still reading this), I decidedly can't say I share your views of the work being done here at the site, which seems far more constructive and altruistic than that being undertaken at other sites, such as there ARE any sites similar to this one, which there really aren't. Sure, forums may be livelier elsewhere—if one likes to spend hours writing veritable short stories and arguing semantics—but I still like the straightforward nature of the system going here (warts and all), as well as the generally helpful nature of the people (including yourself). And reading the modifications forums is always interesting as people keep finding cool new stuff every day, the vast majority of it verifiable and invaluable to the database.
That said, now that I'm working in Toronto, my new office is literally one block north of the Chinese mall containing the little media shop where I've been scoring $2.00 VCDs on my previous visits. Now that I have to pass the place EVERY NIGHT on my way home to my temporary lodgings at my girlfriend's apartment, I just HAVE to stop in at least once a week
. Earlier this week I picked up yet another glorious mix of goodies and garbage:
HONG KONG CRIMINAL ARCHIVES: BLOODY BOX
ULTIMATUM (Michael Wong)
KIDNAP IN ROME
THE TRAIL (Ray Lui)
THOSE WERE THE DAYS (finally got this one!)
SUICIDE (Cat. III)
BECAUSE OF LIES (Simon Yam)
RICH MAN (Shing Fui On and Tommy Wong. Cool!)
FREAKY STORY (Kenny Bee)
SCORPIO
YOUNG POLICEMEN IN LOVE (Jimmy Lin)
THE FATALIST
HONG KONG GRAFFITI
ENDLESS PASSION
EXFERNAL AFFAIRS (couldn't resist that title)
NO TIME FOR TWO
and finally, FOUR titles from Simon Loui's "Blonde Period" (I'm hoping to collect the whole set eventually; I've got about 8 so far)
A SWORD OF DAMOCLES
BLOODY LIE
BEWARE OF THE STRIPTEASE (oddly rated Cat. I)
WHO'S THE ASSASSIN
Anyhoo, I hope others will continue to post their purchases in this thread (and the eventual 2007 thread) as it's always nice to add more titles to the "must-see" list.
As for me, my own credit and photo contributions to the site will pick up in a month or so when I'm finally settled in the city and have my nights free and my own internet connection.
