Carlos - please share ID's with us

Postby heinz Germany » Wed Aug 14, 2013 6:26 pm

Many times I found actors /actresses which Carlos gave a face by adding a portrait, but did not follow the actor's bio for further ID's neither tell us...
For example: (Assumed Taiwanese) Actor Chan Gong (Why Taiwanese actors get always Cantonese Names..) as a monk (No source, no movie)
But when I scroll through his bio i found the cast page of: The Unique Lama (1978) and the Lama is still not ID yet and looks like Chan Gong too
(And even again as a monk like the other picture both with bald head)
BTW: He could be no.8 in Silver Maid http://www.angelfire.com/az3/kitty/cast9/sim.htm

Carlos we are very grateful for each picture but even more grateful if You share that knowledge with us! May be our "cracks" would find more ID's when
we have chance to see those iD's.... that's the reason 1 week ago I posted many ID's to support them - right?

1) I did not warn of my latest ID because nobody told me to do that till now.
2) Remember decompressing your slim portraits.
3) Taiwanese people have Cantonese names because the first editors of our DB did not know Mandarin. So, we are fixing those names now.

Thank You for remembering our concern - Sometimes those ID's of a cast list (page) it's like a puzzle / mosaic.
After You found one You will be able to eliminate that name as a probably name for another "suspect" unknown actor.
And thus sometimes one ID is the basic for the next ID - since often some unknown actors appear together in several movies because for example they are used to work with that company / producer / director or action director.... who frequently uses them.... You see?

As for decompressing pictures I am not quite sure what You mean - perhaps You can give me an example.
I my memories the portraits should at least be not square or not broader than its height (am i wrong?) I call the shape the letter-stamp shape....
Maybe I am wrong - actually to be frank I do not always study all that tons of rules again and again and in real life I do not study the "first-aid"-lessons
each year to not forget how it works. We maybe should have a glossary for that like a FAQ which contains the major rules (or offenses against them) :D

as for Cantonese Names: (One of my favorite topics ever!!)
I learned some Mandarin in my spare-time to communicate with my wife - to be frank I won't be married with her without my speaking skill.
But some Cantonese names really make me suffer. Even many Shaw Brothers Actors which were never credited in Cantonese still have names never ever visible in any Credits of the movies they were billed for - (some newbies therefore will hardly find them in pinyin-search)

But i am afraid some people are such used to that "wrong" (unfamiliar) names they will surely oppose and feel offended I assume...

Some example:
Liu Chia-Liang's (Mandarin) brother is listed as Lau Kar-Wing (1) (Cantonese) - see action directors for: Boxer from Shantung (1972)
Ching Li's (Mandarin) Father is listed as Cheng Miu (I never get used to that - In mind he is always Ching Miao)
Lau Gung has made 41 of his 42 movies for Shaw Brothers always listed as Liu Gang -
David Chiang (mandarin) brother Paul Chun Pui (cantonese) - Say: Let me browse some Shaws and we sure find many examples

Harlock or Bearserk's are the models of how galleries/images should be done (eg sizes, proportions, etc).

Slim pictures:

BAD pics
Image Image (your pic)

GOOD pics
Image Image

It is not a rule pics must be square, but they must not be slim.

Heinz simply used the cast page image of that cast page:

http://www.angelfire.com/az3/chia/cast4/ula.htm

I also sometimes used Bruce's cast pages because it is easier to use existing images instead of to do the images on my own. Bruce gave me (and I think other hkmdb editors) the permission to use the images.

No problem, but you can take the image, decompress it and upload it to our DB.
