Chiu Man Yan from Eastern Condors

Chiu Man Yan? from Fast Fingers

they definitely look like the same person to me

Certainly looks very similar! I would vote for a merge.

Right, because Both are female, have two black eyes and dark hair
But the nose is different

I still think it is fishy that there are 2 Chiu Man Yans in the system...

does it make a difference that Fast Fingers is 4 years earlier than Eastern Condors?

Yes she might have her nose changed in between LOL

The nose does look different, but it could be the angle - and the unusally big ears are definitely similar. And (if I remember her part in Eastern Condors properly), both are great fighters!

I'm basing my vote on a combination of similar looks, the same name and very good martial arts skills :)

not sure if this helps the argument - another shot...

After seeing those, I'm getting more and more convinced that they are indeed the same person

Same nose, different lighting...:P

In the FAST FINGERS captures, the lighting is less stark, there is shadow, and the actress is wearing makeup.

In the EASTERN CONDORS pics, the lighting is much starker, shadowing isn't as prevalent and she's only wearing sweat and mud...

Of course, I could be wrong too. But she definitely looks like the same person to me... :?

If you want my opinion?
First I was not convinced she's the same person, now I'm almost sure, that is if both have the same name written in characters.
A pity there are not more pics of her from Eastern Condor.

A bit off-topic:
Sometimes you need details to see if somebody looks like an other, sometimes you need to see whole face and not the details, especialy when they are having a lot of make-up on. In that case it helps when you turn the portrets upside down and soften them a bit.

I'll grab some more pics from Eastern Condors and post them

again, my vote is for a merge

Do you have their fingerprints too?

I'm almost convinced it's one person. The only reason I'm not, is their names in characters. If those are correct, it points towards the idea of being twins (as if twins always look the same!). :?

I'm trying to obtain her DNA as well :P

i agree with the character issue - that is the thing that bothers me too - I'm waiting for someone that reads chinese to weigh in on this and explain the discrepancy

The characters displayed on the page of 'eastern condor' Chiu Man Yan are displayed on the filmcredits too.
Now if you can find a shot of her characters on the Fast Fingers credits...... 8)

I know this probably doesn't count for much, but I keep staring at the upper bridge of the nose, sort of that area up between the eyebrows, on "both" these women, and I really CAN'T see any difference between them.

Maybe it's just me...

Honestly, if it turned out they were different people someone should do an investigation on their parents

how do we solve this character difference in the two names? is there a reason she would change her first name?

have we spent way too much time on this? :P

Maybe this actress changed his last symbol when she quited Shaw Bros.

Mr. Booth has "The Enchantress", maybe he can post more and more photos from her.

And Mr. Harlock has "Family Light Affair"...

Just recieved 'Fast Fingers'!
The characters on the filmcredits of 'Fast Fingers' for Chui Man Yan are 招文欣, those on the credits of Eastern Condors are 招文茵.

We agree that they look the same, no doubt about that.
It's not unusual that brothers or sisters look alike: Chin Kar Lok/Chin Siu Ho.
It's not unusual that brothers or sisters do the same kind of work, in the same period: the Yuen clan.
It's not unusual that brothers or sisters have the first characters of their names in common: Lau Kar Leung, Lau Kar Fai, Lau Kar Yung, Lau Kar Wing.

So there still can be two Chui Man Yans.
If there are two, we get problems when they both appear in one film!
And that's why we have to spend so much time on this!

And here STSH was concerned over a lack of extreme pedantry amongst our esteemed editors.

Just a question and perhaps a good idea.
Is it possible to add marks to the filmtitles in a filmography?
Then you could merge people with alt. (different written) names and mark the titles of the films where the alt name is used.
Then such filmography would look like this:

-name
-name in characters
-cantonese name
-pinyin name
(1) alt. name (cantones, pinyin, characters)

film1
film2
film3 (1)
film4
film5 (1)
film6

It makes it easier to correct the DB, when a mistake is being made and for those who don't believe it is one person, it's easy to see which one plays in which film.

Too complicated...

Anyway, if nobody objects I will merge them in 15 days.

After the merge we'll indicate that her given name was different in her first 2 films

Simple : add the name as an alias in big5.

And I'm pleased to read all of this pedantry .............
