DB Title Update: FINAL EDGE (2002)

Postby Brian Thibodeau » Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:35 am

Just updated the entry for this rather solid Heroic Bloodshed effort, with lots of photos of the unbearably hot Lily Chung firing guns, kicking ass and smokin' cigars, plus a few other actor IDs and goodies.

http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/images.mhtml ... ay_set=eng

BUT, there's one face that doesn't seem to match, and that's this guy, who plays the character of San Bun, Lily's right-hand man.

The DB entry lists the actor playing this guy as Yao Ming (1)
http://hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng
But there's a gap in his filmog from 1974 to this film in 2002, which makes it suspicious enough, but a simple comparison of the noses on these two would suggest they're not the same person

Here's the closing credits, where the actor playing the character is listed third. Don't know if there's any other additions to be had from these, but here they are:

Finally, here's the VCD cover, which I've already added to the film's DB entry, but this actor is billed yet another way on the sleeve (his name appears in the list of names in black on the left hand side of the sleeve, second name down in the left hand column)

By the way, this movie ain't perfect, but it kicks ass! :D

according to the credits, Yao Ming does not play San Bun. Removed role.

Should Yao Ming be removed altogether? I don't see his Chinese name in the credits I posted or on the VCD sleeve, and I really don't remember anyone who looks like him (even aged 30 years) in the film. The actor pictured above (blue coat, black shirt) does play San Bun, so if anyone can ID him, feel free...

Yao Ming appears in the credits, playing Ching Tin or Cheng Tian or Cheng Tien or something like that, so I will not touch it. If you want to remove him... OK

Ah, I see that now. I was looking at the character name, third down on the right, by accident (it also ends in Ming). I'll take another look at the VCD and see if I can perhaps find a screen shot of him, since this does indeed appear to be his first film in forever... :?

Looks like there's FINALLY some updating to be done based on this thread (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=50892)

I posted this info in Teddy Wong's recent "new way to ID actors" thread, but felt it more appropriate to included it here.

At present, Nishikawa Takakazu is credited as "Tim" in FINAL EDGE, but as "Tim" is the character played by the younger guy pictured above, the character ID must now be removed.

In theory that only leaves one person in our cast list—which is as complete as we can get, as it's based on screen caps—who the younger guy pictured above could be: Yau Ming (3). EDIT: As Calros mentioned in a previous post, Yau Ming plays a character named Ching Tin, which is close enough to "Tim" in the subtitles to be a match in my book. This person is also listed in the cast of the Phillip Ko-directed KILLING SKILL, as well as credited as an action director (perhaps Phillip threw him a choreography gig as a bonus?), so if we could get a gallery for that film, I suspect we'd have see him there as well. KILLING SKILL shares several faces with FINAL EDGE, including . . . Nishikawa Takakazu! Anybody have this movie?

I suspect Yau Ming (3) is also in NEW DEBT COLLECTORS. I don't see the name in the recently-uploaded credits, but he is in the cast gallery, as noted in the thread related to that film.

ALSO:

As mentioned above (though the picture is no longer on my Photobucket account), this guy:

. . . plays the character of "San Bun"

And we now know for a fact that he is Nishikawa Takakazu. (again: http://hkmdb.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=50892)

Changed roles.

"San Bun" means "Yamamoto". Identifications are not my speciality.

Thanks.

I ID'd both of Nishikawa Takakaku's photos now, since the recent evidence was overwhelming and this issue has been "open" for over two years.

If no one objects, I'd like to properly ID the younger guy as Yau Ming (3). Again, the evidence here and in the other thread, is sizable:

Checked him in "Killing skill" and finally identified him
