IFD + Filmark Update Project - New films

Postby J.J.Hayden » Mon Jul 07, 2025 4:08 pm

I had planned to just list the “NEW to HKMDB” films in basically the same way as the list of movies I added source film info to, but this changed when I found a bunch of new films I'd noted but hadn't transferred to my main notes, so I had accidentally missed them off. I had so much to do, I was bound to miss something :P

Fortunately I managed to find them just before I began posting the IFD/Filmark Project, but less fortunately (for me that is :P) I decided to go back and add cast, crew and films details for these new films, which of course took up more of my time, but also made it very messy to put them together in a single post. So instead I'll post each new film separately, like the standard for new films added to the database. It probably works out better this way, it'll just make things a lot clearer and easier to find too. It just meant I had to grind for a bit again.

I pretty much limited my additions of the cast and crew to those listed on the credits on the film print and/or the official IFD website, as doing a full examination of these films was going to take up enough time. Obviously I'll revisit them at some point, especially as I've already seen many of my previous KUP actors show up in these films, but obviously I didn't add them before as these films didn't exist on the database yet.

There were times however, that I left of certain credits, ones that I was confident are fake or that I just couldn't link to any real person (e.g. Carter Link; Lai Yo Loo; or Elton Chong as a MA director; and so on). There were even some cases where basically all the credits were fake.

Films #23-25 are a strange case, I actually came across them purely by chance when researching the other films. I'm pretty sure they belonged to IFD or Filmark but released under differently named companies like with Guns Of Victory, which credits the company Transamerica Films, Inc , which is almost identical to Transcontinental Films, Inc, which is the credit that appears on the film Raiding Party which is confirmed to be an IFD property.

But there are other (more subtle) similarities, firstly you wouldn't bat an eye if there was a Filmark or IFD credit on the film, it just fits right in with there catalogue. The taking of a cheap film from Asia and slapping an English dub and some English credits on it and the style in which it's done, such as the same kind of credits and dubbing actors.

Even the choice of films matches up with many of the previous films in this list, the genre, release date, the film's stars and (more importantly) the same directors, I assume they had some kind of business agreement, selling on their films to IFD/Filmark to sell on internationally.

So I've included them too, though I won't label them as IFD/Filmark unless I get confirmation, though I'm fairly sure that it's the case. Hopefully in the future it will be made clear.

There was also (according to the IMDB) a film called Angel Connection [1988] featuring Sorapong Chatree, so presumably it was a cut & paste film using Thai footage. However, I think this might be fake, as I found no evidence (apart from that IMDB page) that it exists, and even the little info that's there seems suspect, as it credits it as a Filmark production, yet has Godfrey Ho as the director. So for now I've not added it, but I'd be happy to revise this if some stronger evidence is presented.
