I've just been astonished to spot Gordon in a very small part, which was certainly made before he became famous. What I'm looking for it
- year of production of the movie, and
- any other film appearances he made before becoming famous.

I'll start with the known facts, then onto supposition and even speculation.

English title - The Monk

Translation of Chinese Title - Sex Desire Priest (much more likely to grab you, but thoroughly misleading)

Written, directed and featuring (small role) - Dean Shek

Star - Yam Sai Goon (Jen Shi Kwan)

Support cast includes - Fung Hak On (Feng Ko An, a veteran villain who was apparently nicknamed "The Rapist") and Eddy Ko Hung.

Action directors - The Liu Brothers

Plot - a monk is expelled from a monastery when the period equivalent of Playboy is found in his bed. His kung fu skills get him a job with a loanshark, but he eventually returns to the monastery, where his old friend fights him for no apparent reason.

Gordon appears briefly in a scene where Fung Hak On is foregrounded. He has a full head of hair (!). This is by no means a proper cameo. Gordon floats around as one of Fung's thugs, does not speak, and is very much part of the background.

The thing which amazed me was all the familiar faces who look so youthful. Eddy Ko looks like he's just out of his teens.

hkmdb lists Gordon Liu's first film to be made in 1974. Another internet source (can't recall which) says this was his first prominent role.

Putting all this together, I would assume "The Monk" was made in 1973 or even earlier. However, someone from Mobius thinks it more likely a late-70s el-cheapo production made in between major Shaw Bros flicks.

Any hard info or informed speculation ?
