Shaolin vs Evil Dead

Postby Emperor » Sun May 08, 2005 2:19 pm

I was wondering if anyone had any extra information on this? It stars some big names (Gordon Liu, Louis Fan, etc.) but hasn't even got an IMDB listing. The story basically picks up where the Taoist priest leaves teh temple/mortuary at the start of Mr. Vampire and follows his journey taking the dead home but things don't go to plan (when do they??).

Here is the press release:

www.kungfucinema.com/news/2005/012701.htm

but no where does it mention that it is the first part of a film and I had to go via the US distributors to find out what was actually going on - as mentioned in my Amazon reviews of it:

www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007XG ... enantmc-20
www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007 ... ntmagaz-21

And as these reviews show I wasn't the only person to be caught out by this:
http://news.inq7.net/entertainment/inde ... y_id=31053
http://www.firecracker-media.com/issue0 ... 0506.shtml

So does anyone know when the other half is out? Why they never mentioned that the film just stops? Does it have a different name in HK?

Its frustrating that it has a lot of potential to be really good film but the weird way it has been released is a pain.

This film is great BUT drops you flat mid scene and has clips from more of the adventure running in the credits....That caught me off guard!!!

The page we posted has ACTUAL screenshots from the DVD.

Tai Seng put out the USA DVD but they list it as upcoming? I got a stack of the real ones from C-town already. The DEMON WORLD version is a boot and has NO subtitles , BUT the Tai Seng one we have in stock HAS subtitles and way better pic quality.

I was thinking of suing over their providing an inferior product ;)

The real killer is that (in the MIA version anyway) they then run clips of the second half alongside the credits and that looks like it turns up the action couple more notches (same with the making of which looks at the action in the second half too). All very odd and frustrating but the second half looks like this will be a classic!!!

Fingers crossed anyway.

The US version has those clips running along side of the credits rolling.

BUT the Tai Seng version has NO making of the film...

A cut rate thro it out there DVD I love the film but TS should have included the making of like the UK version. :x

Technically I think it is a good decision as an awful lot of it focuses on the second part so its like rubbing salt in the wound and giving some of the set pieces away :(

It would have been better saving it for part two - which I assume is what Tai Seng will do. If you are interested in finding out drop them a line - they got back to me quickly while I've heard nothing back from MIA's PR people (and I had to do some serious detective work to find them!!).

Hello

Yeah I have been in touch since back when this film was still in My Ways hands in Asian and they DID reply but reffered me to TS who at that time (months ago) had yet to take delivery of the film (prints?)

I just realized one of the still on my website from the online UK press kit MUST be from the latter and hopefully upcoming part (yet to be seen) the pic of the girl and all the Kyonsi's behind/around her, A great pr shot but yet to be seen in the first film that I could see.

As the little egg said, "Mom Momma" LOL

LOL ;)

Yep that picture is in the PR company's press release (you will need to give them a name and email address but it doesn't require validation):
http://www.the-associates.co.uk/show_film.php3?id=1595

and features on the back of the UK box (as do most of the hi res pictures they provide).

I believe that scene appears in the making of which devotes a lot of time to the final fight scene and the problem with coordinating large numbers of vampires ;)
