Chinese 3-D movies - help wanted

Postby Libretio » Tue Jun 21, 2005 7:13 pm

I've been compiling a list of 3-D movies over at From Script to DVD website (URL below), and I'm having mucho trouble with a number of Chinese movies, all of which were released in some kind of 3-D format over the years, particularly on home video (VHS and/or DVD). Could anyone possibly identify the following movies?

THE 3-D ARMY (1990)
DICK ISLAND (no sniggering at the back there!)
KNIGHT-ERRANT GIRL
LAUGHING LAUGHING (1981)
THE LION TAMER
THE NORTH AND SOUTH CHIVALRY (1978?)
OUT OF DREAM
PRETTY GIRL

Are any of them listed over at HKMDb under different titles, I wonder? I've posted this list over at Asian DVD Guide, too, just to see if anyone can help.

I found plot descriptions for some of the movies at a website selling VHS versions of the films (in Chinese only), though the English translation provided at the site was clearly written by someone for whom English is not a first language (that's nothing - you should hear some of my attempts at Cantonese!). Anyway, I thought I'd throw 'em in, see if it helps:

PRETTY GIRL: A pretty girl named Ping is the general manager of "Farmer Eden". Before taking her post, she visits the "Changjiang Eden"- a large amusement park. In Changjiang Eden, there are some absurd stories......

THE LION TAMER: This is a comedy film. It is about the life of a circus's lion tamer. Through the Liu San-Lang's life, work and love, we can know the youths' idealities and interests of that time.

KNIGHT-ERRANT GIRL: In the Yong Zheng of Qing Dynasty, the Hes' family were cruelly persecuted by Ji Xian-Tang who was a cunning and acrimonious Gen. The beautiful daughter He Yu-Feng (stage name- Shi San Mei) escaped with bare life, living in deep forest. For the sake of revenge, she trained for gest without fear of chilliness and torridity. With the help of her brothers, she searched Ji Xian-Tang and try to find chances of put-out. Finally, she killed him.

DICK ISLAND: The artificial satellite and space shuttle exploded mystically. The reporter YangZi and cameraman Peter carry through investigate, and disclose the secret of Dick island. The amoks on the Dick island want to manoeuvre the world, but finally are ruined.

OUT OF DREAM: In order to make money, greedy Zheng Xin prints a newspaper named "Pleasant Newspaper" with vulgar and unhealthy contents, propagating swordsmen and fight, feudalistic superstition. The readers of teenagers are contaminated. So Zheng Xin is Criticized and condemned.

As you'll see from the linked website, this is a major overview of 3-D movies and their technical details, with many obscure titles alongside the more famous examples. Could anyone possibly help with these ultra-obscure entries? Many thanks in advance. The link to the 3-D filmography as it currently stands:

DYNASTY (maybe 1980) was another 3-D HK production. It used to run on tv in NYC all of the time.

The Jackie Chan/Lo Wei film MAGNIFICENT BODYGUARDS was also lensed with 3-D distribution in mind.

edit: I see you've mentioned them on your very cool, well-developed list! Sorry.
