I hope no one minds me posting this here but I was just watching something about a remake of the old american movie,Planet Of The Apes. It got me wondering why dont they remake some of the older Shaw Bothers films? It would be great to see The 5 Deadly Venoms 2001! The cast could be:<br><br>Centipede - Aaron Kwok<br>Snake - Russel Wong<br>Scorpion - Michelle Yeoh<br>Lizard - Ekin Cheng<br>Toad - Bolo Yeung<br>The teacher's 6th student - Jet Li<br>The Judge - Chow Yun Fat<br><br>Well what do you think of my cast? Obviously it would never happen but it would be cool. How would you cast such a film?<br><br>

Good idea, except I'm not sure if some of the cast like Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng can deliver 5% of the powerful kung fu of the Venoms. Nevertheless, the numerous technology and special effects can easily make them look like kung fu wiz. I wouldn't mind seeing the 5 venoms reunite for a movie at all. In fact, I think the Once Upon A Time in China series should continue just like 007 James Bond has for 40+ years. I think Sun Chien would be great as Wong Fei Hung, even though Jet Li will always be the legendary Wong Fei Hung. The other venoms easily make excellent pupils of Wong.... Grand idea, eh? <br><br>

A lot of Shaw Bros and various independent kung fu movies of the 60s - 80s have been remade or altered a little bit but kept the same or part of the same titles; some examples are: Demon and the lute @ Deadful Melody, Dragon Gate Inn @ New Dragon Inn, Avenging Eagles @ Thirteen Cold-Blooded Eagles, One-Armed Swordsman @ What Price Survival & The Blade, Sword Stained with Royal Blood(venoms) @ Sword Stained with Royal Blood(Yuen Biao), Proud Youth @ Handsome Siblings, Killer Clans @ Butterfly Sword, New Tales of the Flying Fox @ Sword of many loves; and stories of the Fong Sai Yuk and Wong Fei Hung movies of the 90s have been told long before Tsui Hark and Jet Li even got into mainstream.<br><br>The problem with remakes is most of them either don't seem to do the originals justice or they bomb at the box office, even though Dragon Inn was definitely a plus in both areas.<br><br>

uh hum...How do you see Avenging Eagles and 13 Cold Eagles similar besides the 13 Eagles part. What Price Survival and Blade, besides the One armed part, I can't even see an connection. In this case, every one armed movie is the same as One Armed Swordsman. Sword Stained wth Royal Blood (SB) and the new one, the only thing I see similar like is the title. And whoever put down that Butterfly and Sword is a remake of KILLER CLANS is on something. <br><br>Silver Fox

Well, it's not like I've seen Avenging Eagles, 13 cold eagles, what price survival, the blade, one-armed swordsman, return of one-armed swordsman, demon of the lute, killer clan, sword stained with (venoms) or anything But you are right, they're probably just of the same or similar titles and don't have much to do with the story or characters. What's more, most of these 'remakes' are more of an adaption off the original novel and not the first adapted movie. Most remakable kung fu movies are adapted from novels and are very much in the form of Chinese TV series, which I love all the way.<br><br>

okay, I just watched Killer Clans, and I have to say there were some similarities/connection between it and 1993's Butterfly Sword (both have same Chinese title). At least mostly the same characters are found in both movies. A lot of the scenes in KIller Clans reminded me of other scenes in Butterfly Sword. The plot are quite different, but I don't think they're worlds apart like Demon of the Lute & Deadful Melody, in which not one character was in both movies, and the plots have absolutely nothing to do with one another.<br><br>

It's nice to see an old post of mine back near the top after so long. Just to comment. Yes, there have been some remakes (Legend Of Zu most recently) But I meant a remake of a film that had a huge following. Like the Venoms or 5 Fingers of Death, Master Killer, Flying Guillotine, The Crippled Avengers etc. These are the movies that hooked many westerners to the Martial Art Genre.<br><br>
