American Trailer for KUNG FU HUSTLE

For once, I think the American's got it right. Stands to reason it's Sony and not Miramaxe behind this one. I was never in love with the latter's trailers for SHAOLIN SOCCER, but I think the former really captured what seems to be the gonzo nature of this film. Whether it puts bums in North American theatre seats is anybody's guess, but here's hoping Sony at least stands behind the film better than Miramax did with SS.

Even the use of "Ballroom Blitz" is better than the overused "Kung Fu Fighting."

Man, I wish I lived in Hong Kong right now.

It feels like one of those trailers that gives away all of the film's best moments.

I'm not sure if "Ballroom Blitz" is appropriate either. I haven't seen KFH, but if the song isn't in the movie, then it feels disrespectful, like whoever made the trailer decided that the film's soundtrack wasn't good enough for American audiences. Or they were just so into themselves, that they made a music video using cuts from the film.

*shrug*

my feelings on trailers

i view trailers on their own merits, apart from the film.
to me, they are their own forms of expression- like a short film.
a trailer's primary objective is to tease and pique your interest in the film.
a good trailer is sometimes better than the film itself.
and often in the case, less is definately more.

some of the best trailers that hitchcock made was just him talking to the camera.
