Best female fighters?

Postby Gaijin84 » Tue Sep 06, 2005 8:31 pm

What are the best movies with females as the lead in terms of on-screen fighting skills? Also, the best on-screen female fighters (Angela Mao? Michelle Yeoh?)
All opinions welcome!

My favourite two would have to be Yes Madam! & Righting Wrongs (I can only find a damn VCD version of this film grr - if anyone knows if IVL is going to do a reissue let me know).

I haven't seen the In The Line of Duty Series yet, as they're on order :P

Any time Kara Hui gets to show off her skills is good! The Young Auntie, for example :)

Anything with Cynthia Khan :)

If I would have to pick a specific movie, I would have to say In the Line of Duty 4, where you will find her in a fantastic fight in an elevator shaft amongst other things, but any film will do really, she is wonderfull in all of them :D

Look for movies starring MOON LEE, YUKARI OSHIMA and MICHIKO NISHIWAKI, particularly many of the movies with ANGEL in the title (though certainly not all of them), including the original ANGEL and its sequels, plus ANGEL TERMINATORS I and II.

Yukari Oshima and Moon Lee are put to good use in, ANGEL, MISSION OF JUSTICE, ANGEL TERMINATORS II and to a lesser extent BEAUTY INVESTIGATOR. Yukari also gets some exceptional fights in MILLIONAIRE'S EXPRESS and BURNING AMBITION.

Also, though she's not a formally trained martial artist (at least to my knowledge), Joyce Godenzi sure looks the part in the high-end action flicks EASTERN CONDORS, LICENCE TO STEAL and SHE SHOOTS STRAIGHT, the latter of which features her famous climactic battle with Agnes Aurelio, another decent fighter seen to good effect in the Danny Lee starrer THE BIG SCORE.

And then there's personal favourite Sibelle Hu, who's just as likely to pick up a belt-fed room broom as she is to throw a polished fist. She had a lovely duel with Michiko Nishiwaki in MY LUCKY STARS, then could be found taking out all sorts of trash in the INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS films (first two in particularly) and the lower-budget anything-goes classics DEVIL HUNTERS, FIRE PHOENIX, FATAL MISSION, HOLY VIRGIN VS. THE EVIL DEAD, THE MIGHTY GAMBLER, CHINA HEAT, ANGEL TERMINATORS 2 (again!!) and countless others. It would be nice to see her back on the screen, even in a non-action role - she's been away far too long.

So many from which to chose!

Michelle Yeoh in Wing Chun, Royal Warriors and Yes Madam.

Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima in Angel, Angel 2 and Beauty Investigators.

Angela Mao in Broken Oath and Lady Whirlwind.

Cynthia Khan in In the Line of Duty 3, 4 and 5.

Honorable mention: Joyce Godenzi and Agnes Aurelio in She Shoots Straight; Michiko Nishiwaki ITLOD 3; Cynthia Rothrock in Yes Madam and a bunch of other movies.

My favorite is whomever I watched last. Impossible to chose just one.

I second all your nominees, and I add (honorable mention too) Anita Mui in "Shanghai Shanghai".

I pretty much echo what Brian said, particularly Yukari Oshima.

I would also add "Drug Fighters" as a movie to check out if you like the "girls with guns" action.

Yes Madam and Yes Madam '92: A Serious Shock are incredible. Basically just look for Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima
