Has anyone seen Seven Swords yet and what's their verdict? Is it a new masterpiece?

And how about Autumn Rememberance? Is this out yet? With Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat starring, will it be an automatic smash hit?

I wouldn't really say it's a masterpiece.

It has quite a poor storylines and left lots of stuffs untold. The fight scenes were good but would be better with less zoom in shot here and there so we could see more actions.

I thought it was ok, alot of people come and go without wrapping up their characters. I wish they would release the 4 hour cut, for the movie needs it. The Collector box set that I bought is pretty cool though, the commentary by Hark is really interesting.

It's not a modern classic in the 2.5 hour cut, but I enjoyed it. I'd really like to see the full length version before really judging it though!

hemmm full leangth eh... Let's hope that comes up real soon. I totally agree on the character development point. The movie needs that badly.

But Michael Wong as the Duke... it's still classic and unforgiven (IMHO).

But then again.. hoping to see the 4 hour cut... to re-comment again

Hey, I'm new to the HKMDB.

I enjoyed the film. I found it a bit refreshing, as an original wu xia film. It lacked in plot and character development, but it was a good bit of eye candy. It felt epic in spots and sagged in others, too bad, it had the makings of a much better film.

horrible, horrible movie (minus extra because it's by one of HK's ex-finest), with one of the worst scores I've ever heard. And then there's Leon Lai. horrible, just horrible.

Finally saw this and I have to say I loved it.

The epic scale combined with it's gritty feel make it the best Wuxia movie I've seen since Crouching Tiger.

This should be Donnie Yen's break out piece as I haven't been too impressed with much of his past efforts.

A lot of the main cast were unknown to me and I was impressed by their work.

It's well worth seeing.

It's absolutly worth seeing it! In my opinion, the story is a little poor, as there are many cuts.

This should be Donnie Yen's break out piece as I haven't been too impressed with much of his past efforts.

As good as SEVEN SWORDS can be - in parts - Donnie's real breakout was in SPL, which reinvigorated martial arts noir in so many ways thanks to his furious action design.

I haven't seen many HK movies this year, but nevertheless I wasn't impressed with the score, especially in the final battle - didn't blend in with the imagery at all, and distracted me.

Anyway, just want to say that 2005 is probably the worst year for HK cinema EVER.

OK, maybe, but nevertheless there were some really good movies i.e.

-Election
-Dragon Squad
-The Myth
-Color of Loyality

By the way, I look forward to seeing the 2nd part of Election...

SPL is really Donnie's biggest turn in his career (both action and acting-wise). Donnie Yen has never been this good since Iron Monkey.
