"The Player" Hong Kong-style

Postby Gaijin84 » Sat Mar 04, 2006 7:30 pm

I was reading j.crawford's interesting review of "Kung Fu Mahjong" where he mentions Wong Jing not so subtlety parodying former girlfriend Chingmy Yau and it got me wondering. Is there any Hong Kong movie in the vein of Robert Altman's "The Player" that has a behind-the-scene's look at the industry with some obvious inspirations for characters?

Those Were the Days (1997) comes to mind first. Wong Jing himself gets a shot. Wong Kar Wai, Wong Tin Lam, Lui Kei, Patrick Tse, Chor Yuen, Josephine Siao, Connie Chan and others get parodied...er, paid tribute.

Also, THE LOVE AND SEX OF THE EASTERN HOLLYWOOD (1998) where four popular but troubled Hong Kong actresses and a gay radio personality are portrayed and semi-parodied by, er, five other popular (and younger) Hong Kong actresses...
