Chinese Boxer, title translation

The last of these characters 龍虎門
doesn't look much like the one on the poster (written from right to left).
Can somebody explain me this?

The last character you wrote means "door" and that on the poster means "fight".

Thanks for the quick answers.
The character 'fight' is on the poster and the DVD cover only. Even on the original trailer it's the character 'door' 門 .(where can I find that character in normal script? The one you used for the alias is 門 again)

龍虎門 usually refers to the comic book by 黄玉郎 and the movie of the same name is currently filming. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482930/

The poster should refer to this one:

Wilson Yip mentioned DRAGON TIGER GATE after the SPL screening at the Toronto Film Festival (not to mention a prequel to SPL). After seeing what he and Donnie put together for a contemporary thriller, I'm dying to see what they'll do with period material!

If I may say so: we were talking about the title of 'The chinese boxer'.

Till now, no reactions on:
The character 'fight' is on the poster and the DVD cover only.
Even on the original trailer it's the character 'door' 門 .
Where can I find that character for 'fight' in normal script? The one that is used for the alias is 門 again.

Mr. Klein I think you need a new glasses.

As Mr. Fan points out, "gate" is not the same character as "fight"-

maybe if I "magnify" the signs...

in the display:

龍虎門 (1970)
Chinese Boxer, The
Lung Foo Moon
Long2 Hu3 Men2
Alt title: Hammer of God
Alias: 龍虎鬥

I think you're right. I tought the character wasn't displayed correct on my monitor. Sorry.
But one more question: does that character looks like the one on the poster?

Klein, actually, chinese characters can be written in different ways. Like this poster, which also refers to the "The Chinese Boxer". The "Tiger" and "Fight" characters are written in the way we usually and currently used in HK. The one in "your" poster, I would say they are written in an artistic (or old?) way.

Thanks for the answer (but I still have the impression that the last character on the poster isn't one of these 門 鬥. ).

It doesn't looked like to 門 or 鬥 at all. But it = 鬥.

I think you must be right. I've been through dozens of characters that looked a bit like the one on the poster, but nothing matched my search.
So, it must be a very artistic impression of 鬥.

I didn't give up.
I think it isn't but . It's just an other traditional form of the character. (It also means: tease, to play with.)

I've seen the film. I liked it, but I like most of the Shaw brothers martial arts films. (It's always nice to see a lot of actors you know.)

It's not movie related, but really would like to know how you can type the word 鬦 and where you get the meaning of "tease, to play with"? Thanks.

Do you guys fancy turning your talents to these credits for RAINING IN THE MOUNTAIN?

So I can finally delete them from my photobucket account? :p

I couldn't type the word 鬦. I copied it from HERE. (You'll get a opening screen first. Click on the bar!).
The meaning of the word I found in our Chinese-English dictionary from the "foreign language and research press" (Beijing).
It shows one simplified and 3 traditional forms of the character: 斗, 鬥, 鬦 and
It shows two entries on the word. The first with the meanings like fight, struggle; the second (with this simplified character, but the same traditional ones) with meanings like: tease, to play with.

If you want more information, just ask (perhaps it's better to use the private message button, because it's a bit off topic.)

Fan is Chinese and is trying to TELL YOU that she almost gave up trying to explain this to you, not figure this out for herself. This is not a mystery to her.

Thanks for figuring out I am a "she".

I'm really happy I found this place & meeting people who won't give up so easily.

Your very first post here, in response to the thread on DRAGON SQUAD, contained the most obvious clue.

For Andy On, I haven't watched any of his movies before, but quite impressive to him in DS. How can a woman not be touched by watching him cried so sorrowfully for his dead girlfriend?

It was nice to finally see even a small bit of gender balance at a forum like this! I hope we'll see even more in the future!

(hmmm, I guess that means I should change my avatar! )

Glad to have you here, Fan! Please don't be shy about posting, contributing, uploading reviews, images...maybe even being an editor (hint, hint).

While admittedly there aren't too many, or enough, you aren't the only "she" here. For instance, Mandy (evirei) is a significant review and picture contributor here, and is also someone I also would like to see contribute much more...and there are others...

Anyway, welcome!

Okay, so maybe I don't have to change it! Just wasn't sure about the gratuitous panty shot, but if that doesn't offend, well......

Besides, if I recall the movie correctly, he doesn't get to hit her back after that kick.
