maybe you thought they were misplaced but they weren't. I personally liked A Man Called Hero 100 times better than Fist of Legend. of course that's not to say fist of legend was not as good as a man called hero in all respect. What I like best is very different from what I think is best. so if you asked me if I think fist of legend is good, I will say it is pretty good. but if you ask me whether I liked it, I will say "hell no."<br><br>

It was the original Cantonese version<br><br>:)<br><br>I just didn't enjoy the action very much. But sadly that was the best part of the movie.<br><br>

Now remember, the question was about which pictures surprised you as good or bad, not which movies do you think were the best or worst. Having said that, let me begin with the movies that suprised me as-<br>BAD<br>1. Holy Virgin vs Evil Dead<br>With a name like that I was expecting more than I got - a boring wannabe funny monster flick.<br>2. Twelve Animals <br>A tired old looking kungful movie attempting to teach about the zodiac. Ho-Hum.<br>3. Peacock King -<br>With the cast involved in this movie, I was looking for better action and more plot than I got.<br>4. General Invincible<br>Someone told me to rent this crap about a flying girl who got trained by wearing weights on her feet. That person is no longer my friend.<br>5. Ashes of Time<br>Jesus Christ what a boring and stupid film.<br>6. Robotrix <br>Too violent and poor martial arts for my taste.<br>7. Wicked City<br>OK special effects but the plot and acting let me down.<br>8. Body Weapon<br>I turned it off. The film cover is nothing like the film. Sex and violence together - which I don't like.<br>9. An Eternal Conflict <br>I can't believe Joey let me down with a rehash of ACGT.<br>10. Peking Opera Blues<br>I don't understand why people like this one. I didn't like the story line, action, or message. Didn't interest me at all.<br> <br>Now for the GOOD<br>1. Burning Paradise<br>I liked the martial arts, look and feel of this 'over-the-top- kungfu extravaganza set in caves.<br>2. Millionaire's Express<br>So damn funny, I laughed the entire film.<br>3. Chinese Odyssey/Forbidden City Cop<br>I put these Chow film's together. They are both great, entertaining films. I got much more than I expected.<br>4. Mr. Vampire <br>Lam is great in most of the films in this series, but I remember the first as the best. Funny, scary, intersting martial arts.<br>5. Butterfly Sword<br>On my top 20 martial arts films ever. Fantastic swordsplay/fantasy film. Better than I expected given some reviews I have seen.<br>6. Warriors Tragedy<br>In two parts, but it kept my attention the entire way.<br>7. Fist of Legend and Black Mask<br>I liked both these Li films better than his other ones. Both were better than I expected. Adequate plots and great fights. <br><br>I could go on forever......<br><br>

Definitely a thread worth continuing..........

Better than expected :

Ashes Of Time (I'm a firm member of the "Wong Ka Wai is a Wanker" school, but AOT is the stunning exception)

Saviour Of The Soul II (A riot ! Way more fun than the patchy original)

Long Arm Of The Law (Thought it would be a grubby low budget crime drama, but was a terrific, witty and very violent crime thriller)

Lan Kwai Fong Swingers (Apart from the violent end, a terrific feelgood soft porn comedy)

Temptation Summary II (Great fun - not your average cheap porn crap)

Love On Delivery,
Fist OF Fury 1991 Part 2,
60 Million Dollar Man
(Stephen Chow shows his soft and even romantic side !)

First Time Is The Last Time (Everyone delivers great performances in what could have been just another Women In Prison flick. Even Andy Lau is blast)

Madam Q (A blast! Mind-bendingly complex revenge plot, with tons of high quality nudity and card playing. Astounding effort on a low budget)

Worse than expected :

ChungKing Express (How is it that so many people fail to be driven to distraction by this ...... this ....... oh, words fail me)

Robotrix (Dull and slow, when it should have been fast and perky)

Infernal Affairs (Yes, sacrilege, I know. Looked like a glossy re-take on Hard Boiled)

One Night Stand (Deservedly obscure Taiwanese cheapie. Features two of my favourite cheapie actors - Chui Man Wa and Cho Boon Feng)
