Cop Unbowed

Despite having a fairly solid cast that includes Alex Fong, Lam Suet, and Eddy Ko Hung, director Wai Tat's one and only feature, 2004's Cop Unbowed, fails to impress by not offering a glimpse of originality or sliver of passion during its' thankfully brief eighty-five minute running time. This is a prime example of cheap cop drama movie-making at it's "finest" that offers really nothing of interest to the viewer.

Summary: NOT shot on video

Unhurried, well-played gangster melodrama bookended by showy chopper battles that look like music videos. Suspended for causing the death of lifelong friend and triad Michael Tse, and unjustly accused of killing the girlfriend of Tse's boss (Eddy Ko), former undercover cop Alex Fong retires to an idyllic seaside restaurant with wife Yoyo Mung and friend Chin Kar-lok. Ten years on, Ko plants Tse's teenaged son (Sam Chan) in Fong's employ to exact revenge, a task the boy finds increasingly difficult as he warms to his new companions, particularly devoted waitress Chiu Chung-yu (whose resemblance to pop goddess Sammi Cheng is uncanny). Plot and character inconsistencies—as well as tacked-on opening and closing intertitles and narration—suggest Fong's ex-cop may have may have been a triad in the original script. A concession to mainland censors, perhaps? Written by the director. Supporting player Ken Chung's hair is only somewhat less awkward looking than it was in last year's TWINKLE STARS

NOTE: The previous reviewer, Sydneyguy, is wrong when he suggests that it's shot on video when it's very clearly shot on film, and quite well at that.

Summary: Straight to video/video camera style filming

In other words its low budget,

the beginning tries to tell a quick story about what is happening but its intention to show a summary of what occurs feels like u are watching a short film that just jumps from topic to topic. Your wondering if your watching a trailer!!

General plot is Michael Tse is killed by Alex Fong, but Eddy ko,the triad boss, believes Alex fong done wrong to him (but it was actually Michael Tse) and Alex fong escapes and lives a life in a restaurant where Chin Kar Lok is working also. The plot is a revenge one from Eddy Ko who sends people after them.

The problem with this movie is the uneven performances from the various cast. The young cast at times look amaturish and All Alex Fong has to do is mope around. The plot itself is standard so its nothing new.
The ending is just bad,the movie just speaks about Alex Fong after kicking ass and that movie just ends!!

Its a ok movie, if you got nothing better to do, you can do a lot worse
