Magnificent Trio

Summary: a compelling, vivid film.

Magnificent Trio is the 3rd feature film directed by the now legendary Chang Cheh for the Shaw Bros. studio. The film features a very young Jimmy Wang Yu along with a very young Lo Lieh and a very young Cheng Lui as the three martial artists of the title. The movie has a colorful, compelling story that builds to a grand finale. Mr. Chang was fortunate that producer Runme Shaw teamed him with experienced action directors Tong Gaai and Liu Chia-Liang. They take full advantage of the cast’s sharp skills. The Celestial DVD is well worth a look if you are a fan of the old school martial arts films.

Summary: Well worth a watch, a finer example of a Shaws films...

Pretty bloody good really. Great characters and story, action was cheesy and dodgy but still entertaining. I thought the whole film felt like a Kurosawa, although not as accomplished. The last half hour went on a bit but this is definitely one of the better Shaws I have seen.

Summary: Good film

Excellent story, slow pacing, likable characters, chessy action and lots of bloody battles.
