Great performances by all..sleepy synthesizer music galore. Nice production as well. Chow Yun Fat was quite a Valentino in this one ladies! Check it out! Plus Brigitte is also quite..well...you'll see!

Reviewed by: MrBooth Date: 05/27/2001 Summary: Not sufficiently filled out DREAM LOVERS - Chow Yun Fat and Brigitte Lin discover that they are the modern-day reincartations of a couple of ancient lovers. Gosh. Sadly far too little time is spent on the sequences in the past, and you're never given any reason to understand why their love was so great that it lasted their deaths and 2000 years. Moderately interesting regardless.

Reviewed by: Hongkie Date: 05/18/2001 Summary: Interesting in several respects My favorite part of this movie is that is managed to work in China's famous terracotta army into its plot. That aside, this is one of the few films you will see Chow Yun-Fat in a love scene. However, the ending leaves much to be desired. The direction is also rather melodramatic, but that can't be helped due to the very fantastic nature of the plot.

Reviewed by: STSH Date: 06/09/2000 Summary: Moody, but with problems I found the general eeriness sometimes effective, but sometimes an awful red herring. For instance, when Chow and Bridgette are in the supermarket - the eerie music signals ..... nothing. The scenes between Chow and Cher Yeung are wonderful. They convey the sense of a couple mad about each other - until things go wrong. Then, the reactions of both are spot on. Compare this with the interaction of Chow with Bridgette. There's practically no spark at all, except in their final scene, which is so overdone as to be equally unconvincing. And the ending only makes this worse. It's my opinion that the lack of any chemistry between Chow and Bridgette (which is the crucial relationship of the plot) is the single big flaw in this film. There is much else to recommend it. The imagery is pretty good, Cher Yeung puts in a great performance, and the two old guys aren't bad either. Overall, a little annoyingly mixed. Reviewer Score: 7

It's a vaguely poignant supernatural drama, and Brigitte is always a welcome sight, but let's be blunt: it's a neat concept awkwardly written and directed, and further marred by an echoey synth soundtrack.
