Reviewed by: ElectraWoman Date: 10/29/2000 Summary: 6/10-Hello? Chemistry between lovers, anyone? This is an alright film from Jacob Cheung (who's done a LOT better) about star-crossed lovers. The beginning is quite muddled-fire, people running around, more people running around, some more fire, then some more people-and while the film steadies, it's not really interesting. The two leads try hard, but I really wished they seemed like lovers. Interesting to see Lam Ching-Ying as a deaf hitman. Overall, rent this out if you want to Lam Ching-Ying in a different role. Just fastforward past the other scenes.

Reviewed by: nsbr1 Date: 12/25/1999 Jacob Cheung creates a brilliant little film here that on the surface seems to be your standard cops/criminals/love story - but has submerged it in some very artistic lighting, editing, cinematography - complex themes of loyalty and love - and gets a heartfelt and lovely performance from Nina Li as a deaf, nearly mute woman. Both Sammo and Yukari have very small roles. Ngai Sing plays a HK cop who comes to the Mainland to look for the man who killed another HK cop - but he is soon falsely blamed for shooting Yukari and is on the run - and only Nina - the mistress of bad guy Tsui Kam-Kong can clear him. Cheung gives all his characters a sense of humanity that you rarely come across in this type of film - and it makes it all that much more rewarding.

Reviewed by: jfierro Date: 12/21/1999 The plot is a little hard to follow, but it all boils down to the standard scenario in which a man and woman who hate each other are forced to go on the run with each other and eventually fall in love. While well-written, there is little chemistry between the two leads, Ngai Sing and Nina Li Chi. You can't fault Nina Li, though, as she does a nice, understated job as the deaf girl with torn loyalties. I did like the plot resolution at the end. Director and co-writer Jacob Cheung would go on to sweep the HK Golden Statue Awards the next year with his amazing film CAGEMAN.

Reviewed by: hokazak Date: 12/09/1999 Don't be fooled! Yukari has only a tiny bit part. Samo has a minorsupporting role, and the always wonderful Lam Ching Ying has a fairly substantial supporting role. I don't know who the actors playing the two main lovers are, in this film. Over all not a bad story, about a young deaf-mute woman who feels indebted to the triad boss who rescued her from a life of prostitution, but who falls in love with a young cop in the course of a few adventurous days together as fugitives, on the run and handcuffed together (a la "The Defiant Ones" and "Tiger Cage 2"). Her divided loyalties provide the dramatic tension in the film, along with the fact that her triad benefactor's right hand man (and main gunman) - played by Lam Ching Ying in his wonderful brooding style - is not-so-secretly infatuated with the young woman too. Of course, there is a dramatic conclusion in which everybody is brought together, and some things get resolved.
