Summary: Undercover Girls (1999)

'Undercover Girls' was shown in Hong Kong in a hurry with only short notice. Judging from the name 'Undercover Girls', it looks like a Cat. III porn. In fact, it's a Cat. III movie. If you take a look at the Chinese main title, it would be very strange as it shares the same name as Peter CHAN Ho-san's 'She's a Woman, He's a Man' (Kam Chi Yuk Yip). In newspaper advertisement, it claimed that YUNG Hung leads a group of girls into the lower class.

The fact is that 'Undercover Girls' is nothing related to neither real undercover girls nor 'She's a Woman, He's a Man'. The main story is about two guys (CHIN Siu-ho and another unknown fatty) who are unemployed and would like to establish a Kung Fu office. Accidentally they met YUNG Hung who is a rich business's girl and start trying to date her. On the other hand, YUNG's Dad declined to co-operate with the Triad Head in Taiwan while the Triad Head would like to kidnap YUNG as a condition to force YUNG's Dad to sign the contract by transferring 51% of the shares to him. Then two guys who want to date YUNG try to rescue YUNG from danger.

It is interesting that the whole story of 'Undercover Girls' should be in Cat. II A, or even Category I. In fact, it's original title seems to be 'Super Bodyguard' which advertised in 1997. Now it becomes Category III only because 3 making love scenes are added into the movie without any skills. The editing between these scenes are presented in an extremely poor way. You can even easily cut the scenes by judging the images or the sounds. I can't find any reason or any point for them to put love scenes in terms of the structure of the movie.

In terms of the plot, I recommend you shouldn't put any expectation from it. First, the background of the characters are lack of description. Some of the scenes are very strange without objectives. For examples, for scenes for the two guys to date YUNG Hung, it looks like the stuffs are totally optional, you can take any as you want. This failed to convince audience to believe that they are in love. The whole storyline is also old-fashioned and you can predict the whole synopsis by watching the first 15 minutes.

Another weird thing in the movie is its cinematorgraphy. Some of the angles shows how unprofessional the movie is. One of the obvious examples is that when CHIN Siu-ho and the other guy went back to their office, the angle is filmed with slopes which misleads audience if they have problems with their eyes! This also shows that how much efforts they've put in the movie.

In short, 'Undercover Girls' is a movie without focus. The plot synopsis is too loose and also too old-fashioned. The insertion of 3 love scenes are also strange and weird. In addition to it's weird cinematography and editing, I conuldn't find any reason for audience to watch with expectation.
