Summary: Confusing

I found that I hardly knew what was going on, but I think it may have been the fact that my subtitles were completely incomprehensible. It seemed like a nice-looking movie, but that whole scene in the wine house was a little over the top—and that's coming from a Stephen Chow fan!

I give it a 3/10, 2 for the looks, and 1 for Sonny Chiba. I love that guy. :D

Summary: More than meets the eye?

I was impressed with this film--very surprising since the general consensus is that it doesn't have much redeeming value. I was pleasantly surprised that it doesn't fit into the wuxia cliche, and I applaud its effort to step outside the conventional circle. What I really enjoyed was the surrealistic imagery that alternates between dream state and reality. I look forward to seeing this again in the future.

Very nice-looking, beautifully shot but ultimately hollow period drama about a young man whose drinking habit causes disaster for his family and himself. Sonny Chiba plays the father, and Gigi Lai the suffering bride. Despite the title, this is not a swordplay movie, but a drama, and not a very convincing one at that. It's all style over substance, and reminded me a lot of Andrew Lau titles like THE DUEL. There is one swordfight at the end of the movie, which is well-done (if you like CGI-enhanced swordplay), but overall, this movie is pretty forgettable.

Summary: It's Alright.......I Guess.

Confusing but not all that bad. There's only one fight sequence in the entire movie and that was too unreal for my tasts. Good acting however. This movie got that chinese fantasy type of feel to it. I wouldn't recommend buying this movie but if you're courious, definatly rent it.

Summary: Not what you expect!!

Now if you think this movie is going to be a sword fighting movie with lots of blood, DON'T look this way!! There is only ONE fight scene in this movie!!

It really is a drama. I know the title gives you a feeling this is going to be something that it isn't!! I even think the one fight scene was a mere formality to what the movie is really about!!

There are many levels to this movie. It's about a strain family relationship. It is about escape-ism from reality via alcohol. It is about love. In all these, i think it achieves it's pupose!!

The camerawork done on this film is excellent!! I can not emphasises it enough!! It is very creative and great to watch!!

All actors do there roles, especially Sonny Chiba as a proud, controlling father.

The one action scene is ok. It's a bit too fast to know whats happening and the way the fight ends is like it was from DRAGONBALL or something!! I am not sure how the guy even gets hurt!!

The way the movie also unfolds is good. It is not till the end you fully know what is going on!!

If your looking for a sword fighting movie, you'll be really disappointed, but if your looking for a good drama, come here!!

Summary: Enjoyable legend

Fun Li (Wong Git) is continuously drunk, even on his wedding day much to his father's (Sonny Chiba) disapproval. Fun's wife (Gigi Lai) is unhappy. Her husband is a drunkard and her father-in-law is cruel to her. Fun finally vows to never drink again and sets off on a mission for his father's security company but tragedy and misfortune ensues...

Sonny Chiba has a similar look to his Stormriders character and he is great is the role of Fun's strict father. Wong Git looks cool with his head of black hair with long strips of white at the ends and a white pony tail . I enjoyed the story, the costumes, the characters and the overall atmosphere of the film. The music throughout the film was effective from the rhythmic music at the drinking tavern to the outdoor drum sequence. I recommend this film.

Summary: The Legend of...what the hell?!?

I must admit that I was surprised by this movie, not much else,
but I was surprised.

What I thought would be an epic Ancient Chinese Battle film turned
out to be something completely different from what I was expecting.
(Maybe it's part of a series I haven't heard about and this is just
the 'emotional' movie in the series.)

Fun is being married to Cher, but what he doesn't realise is that
you should drink at the Buck's turn and at the reception,
not at the ceremony.

After the less than successful wedding, he is often seen at the
Ancient Chinese nightclub trying to reveal women's undergarments
by throwing pointy chopsticks at them, only returning home in
the morning to utter the Chinese equivalent of "Where's me dinner?"

His dad is not too pleased with this behaviour and drags him out
of the pub/nightclub - here's a tip, if your Dad comes to pick you
up from the pub when you are drunk, don't hit him!

Meanwhile, Cher is riding her horse in the countryside when it begins
to get scared, knowing that kicking it in the head is a good way
to calm horses down, a man beating a drum does it for her and
kills the horse.

It just gets worse from here (or stranger depending on your point
of view). I just wanted Fun to get his sword out and start chopping.
If you manage to enjoy this movie, Mark Morrison recommends you
see 'Ashes of Time' (he wrote the blurb on the video cover for it.)

Rating : 5/10 (Only just makes it due to the crazy CGI sequence).

Summary: Piece of crap

Wong Kit a thrity year old drunk martial artist who's still whinging over the fact his dad played by Sunny Chiba slapped him when he was twenty-one. Lots of bad acting by the entire cast and the fight sequence (yes only one fight sequence) are laughable not worth anybodys time.
