Summary: one of the worst films of the last decade.

Ha-ha! This movie's poster popped up on the main page and jolted my memory. I remember being excited when I saw the advance notices for its release. Wow. So bad. It is one of the worst films of the last decade. Colleagues here have said it all so well. Since that time, we have learned that the director, the "other" Tony Leung, may have been one of the worst directors working in Hong Kong during this period. Really. I can't think of one of this guys movies I liked. He even screwed up his PTU film. If you have to watch this, check out Kingdom Yuen. She's cool.

Summary: Very boring!!

unlike the review below me i have nothing to recommend. i guess we have been spolit with such great movies such as the Mr vampire series but this..... is boring!!

There is very little action in this, maybe cause the budget is so low. It takes a long time before something happens. The story and plot is standard and predictable. The ultimate vampire, how it is produce is just too unbelieveable!!

Wayne lai in future can play the vampire hunter in other movies to good effect but this movie will just make you yawn!!

Avoid wasting 1.5 hours of your time

Summary: Uninspired, dull.

Tedious attempt to revive the gyonsi genre for the 21st century. Again suffers from casting a completely charisma free man in the lead role (Gallen Lo), which makes it rather difficult to enjoy the jealous rivalry for his affections that goes on between the very lovely Kathy Chow and the not-quite-as-lovely-but-still-pretty-lovely Joey Man. Not that the script was exactly inspired to begin with.

Wayne Lai is little more watchable as Gallen's master, but Yuen King-Tan is wonderful as always as Kathy's master. Quite a large role by her normal standards, and not playing a brothel mamasan for once! She still has dull script lines to deliver though, and the chemistry between her and Wayne Lai is non-existent.

Despite the sound tracks best efforts to convince you that the interplay between these characters is amusing, it clearly isn't. The soundtrack might not have seemed so annoying if it were, so I'm reluctant to call it "a hideous abuse of the ears" in its own right, though it clearly is in the context of this movie.

Yuen Wah crops up as a black magician bad-guy, looking really old these days. He's not in it for long. The vampire action is pretty minimal in the movie, and the attempts at action sequences really show how much ground Hong Kong has lost in that field in less than 10 years.

Is there anything to recommend the movie for? Kathy Chow, basically. Apart from that, nada.

Nothing special, but decent enough effort if you like hopping vampire movies. This is a low budget period piece, well filmed, with attractive visuals but lacking the charm and the precision in the action choreography of say the first Mr Vampire or Sammo's Spooky Encounters.

Marginal Recommendation (for fans of the genre only).
