Bei Cheung's life is a legend in its own right. Bei entered the show business in 1981. In 1982, he produced his first record which became very popular in Asia Pacific region such as Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. In the same year he sang off-screen for songs in "Asking the Sunset", appeared in and sang the theme song for "Last Night's Light". From 1985 to 1986, he starred in "Dranger Has Two Faces" and "Spring Outside of the Fence". Bei subsequently focused on his singing career and in 1990, Bei focused all his energies on the American Broadway. Bei returned to Taiwan to develop the performing arts in 2000.

Kris Phillips is his actual birth name. He was named "Kris" as he was born on Christmas Eve. His Chinese name was formed from the Chinese pronunciation of the first syllable in Phillips, "Fei" and choosing Xiang as his given name, taken from a homonym of the Chinese for "soaring" or "taking flight"
