Yes, I know many fu films have a lot in common with old Westerns, but few are as blatant as this one. Instead of guns, they use fists. Everything else is in place.

The skilled fighter/stranger wanders into town. He sides with the locals against a bunch of thugs who want something from them. He fights alone, despite many offers of help. He's on a mission of personal vengeance. And so on.
It's a plot we all know well. So why watch ? Well, the cast is terrific. Man Kong Lung is very watchable as the virtual superhero. It's fascinating to watch Liu Ping play a good guy, for once. The village setting is remarkably realistic, and this adds to the feel of authenticity, a rare thing in kung fu movies. Lau Lap Cho does a great job as the slimy underboss. And don't we all love the baddies getting thoroughly womped ? The legendary director Joseph Kuo built his reputation on high quality product of this type.
Of course, the level of fu is high, and very entertaining to watch. Warmly recommended.
