Family Doctrine (Part 1)

This two part story is a remake of the justifiably considered classic trilogy of Family, Spring and Autumn from 1953 and 1954. Unfortunately, the remake pales by comparison.
The story has been pared down and streamlined and characters eliminated to fit two instead of three films. So, while easier to follow, the original trilogy requires a scorecard to keep track of who's who, the overwhelming tragedy of the impact of fedualism upon the younger generation of the family is greatly reduced.

Ng Chor Fan who played one of the sons in the original now plays the role of the patriarch of the family. Lo Dun played the role as much more domineering and tyrannical figure in the earlier version. Here, Ng Chor Fan barely registers.

This version is also in color.
