Reviewed by: MrBooth Date: 02/07/2007 Andy Lau and Alan Tam play Chinese spies who must go undercover in a prison camp to find the 'God Of Fortune', the only person who knows the code to access a Swiss bank account containing enough money to fund the resistance and end the Japanese occupation. The only clue they have to identify him is a passphrase, though. An ensemble cast makes up the prisoners and the guards, neither of which seem to be taking the war all that seriously. The Fortune Code is a fairly frivolous film, presumably aimed at Chinese New Year crowds. The plot holds no great depth or surprise, and the cast are most just left alone to do what they do best (which in Billy Lau's case is to be exceedingly annoying). There's a fair amount of action, which is a bit below par for the time, and lots of comedy which is mostly cheap and juvenile. Not great cinema, but mostly harmless. Reviewer Score: 6

Reviewed by: dandan Date: 03/08/2006 Summary: silly prisoner of war camp fun... anita mui, andy lau, sammo hung, alan tam and eric tsang star in a film about a japanese prisoner of war camp in china. no sooner has any lau escaped from the camp, then he has to go back in as a spy, trying to find the 'god of the code'. 'the god of the code' is the only person who knows the code to access a swiss bank account which has china's war fund in it, without, the war against japan is lost... it's a pretty silly film, but it's a whole lot of fun. well, a moderate amount of fun at the least. there's also plenty of action, more than i expected and, while it's not of the highest standard, there's some pretty entertaining stuff going on.

Reviewed by: Inner Strength Date: 03/27/2002 Summary: Looks good at first, well, first 10 mins anyway! Read what 'sydneyguy' said, I would say pretty much the same! Good cast with some fun scenes, but (thanks to Wong Jing) poor story. Based during World War II, the big stars play prisoners of war in an uneven comedy with about 5 minutes of story. Kent Cheng is the director, who does appear to do his best considering the poor (almost non-existent) script by Wong Jing. It is worth a look though, but I wouldn't spend any real money on it. Rating: [2.5/5]

Andy Lau (along with a whole cadre of HK's biggestcharacter actors) are prisoners in Camp 732, where they must find "The God of Fortune" -- a treasure to finance the Chinese resistance effort. Alan Tam plays the evil commandant, Samo Hung the ninja-like kung-fu master, and Anita Mui an undercover nurse; whaliferous Kent Cheng has reverted to a child and has to be breast-fed by his pals.
