A scene-for-scene ripoff of Robert Rodriguez' "El Mariachi", butstill very good. In fact, the director seems to have been inspired by the Mexico setting to shoot some very creative scenes. As in the original, a guitar player traveling through Mexico is mistaken for a hitman, and must hide out in a cantina owned by a woman (Veronica Yip in a fine performance) still mourning the loss of her brother. Unfortunately, the local kingpin who wants to kill the hitman is also pressuring the bar owner to marry him. With a superior plot and a more believable romance, this film is actually better than the original "El Mariachi".

Would you believe an HK remake of El Mariachi? Lam Ling Fai (Leon Lai) is stranded in a back roads Mexican town with a few pesos and a guitar case at the same time a Chinese hit-man is also in town -- but his guitar case is full of automatic weapons. The bullets are aimed for evil "Carlos," who's in unrequited love with Ho Ying (Veronica Yip), the saloon keeper. Solid action sequences and a romantic subplot keep the movie moving.
