The Last Conflict

Summary: Interesting team-up of Stephen Chow, Donnie Yen & Francis Ng but otherwise forgettable

Not a movie but a TV movie with Stephen Chow, Donnie Yen and Francis Ng when they were still unknown to the public. Not bad for a TV movie I must say. TV movies over there tend to be cheap so the quality is like standard HK TV series, which isn't too surprising either since this was produced by TVB. You can easily tell the filming crew had to limit their resources to get things done. From locations (usually crowd-free ones) to props (including guns) even.

The story is played out like a usual HK cop soap show and doesn't show anything of particular interest because normally the focus is on the characters and the melodrama in these fairs. But I thought the acting and chemistry between the actors were decent enough and not as melodramatic as usual. If chances were that people would have good reasons to see THE LAST CONFLICT, it would really be because of the action. But even isn't of high caliber. I took as much pleasure out of the action and it was alright, with some good moments of fight scenes (Donnie Yen does all the best stuff, of course) and gunplay but, like I said, it's nothing outstanding. This is a TV movie so the scenes are shot and edited like what you would expect from HK TV series and/or TV movies.

Overall, THE LAST CONFLICT fairly satisfies as a cop movie with the character development/chemistry (especially that of Stephen Chow and Donnie Yen), minimal melodrama and action scenes. Otherwise, look elsewhere for quality action/overall film-making.
