Reviewed by: dandan Date: 09/20/2010 Summary: murder by illusion... hsiao long (lam siu-lau) and his father, master lin (yuen cheung-yan), help the boss of a legitimised former triad group fake his own death, in order to protect him and his family from a thai gangster who wants to ship and sell drugs through his connections. yep, basically a taiwanese version of 'f/x - murder by illusion', which is more comedy than thriller. and, is more fun because the special effects which are employed are wu xia based, as opposed to hollywood b-movie. oh, plus there's dick wei and a bunch of fun, if overly under-cranked action sequences, choreographed by chiu chung-hing, who also wrote and directed. oh, and it's also fun that the lead is a woman playing a man, but that this gets picked up on in a joke. not great, but an enjoyable watch.

Reviewed by: calros Date: 07/19/2005 Summary: Funny "F/X" taiwanese version An old rich businessman needs to simulate his violent death in the presence of triads members, so he hire a team of movie special effects technicians, leaded by Lin Hsiao Lan (who plays an actress specialized in fantasy B-series movies as "Kung Fu Wonder Child"); something goes wrong and the quartet of technicians will have to help their client and fight the baddies, leaded by Dick Wei. <p> This movie is very funny: their action scenes are always into B-series, but the imagination of the martial choreographers seems not to have end and the movie has more gadgets than all the 007 movies together, beginning with Lin's bicycle and ending with Dick's deadly shoe. <p> Very very very much funnier than "F/X: Murder by Illusion".
