Biography

Began in Shanghai film industry in the early 1920s. Died 1967.

Because of an illness that inflicted him when he was 27, Zhu became crippled from the legs down. But nothing could cripple his will, as evidenced by his writing scripts even when he was bed-ridden. In 1930, Zhu went to Shanghai to start his filming career. He started to direct films from 1934 onwards, and made “Song of a Mother” which is considered a classic of Chinese films. Zhu came to Hong Kong in 1946 and directed “Sorrows of the Forbidden City”, “Spoiling the Wedding Day”, “Mr. Chen Vs Mr. Chen”, “Festival Moon” and so on. He joined Feng Huang Motion Picture Co. in 1954. Besides directing films and writing scripts, Zhu also acted as Chairman of the Arts Committee and trained young talents in film directing and script writing.
