| Originally named Koh Nakahira, the Japanese director was born in Tokyo on January 3, 1926. During his days in the Ofuna Studio of the Shochiku Motion Picture Co., Nakahira was the assistant director of various renowned helmers, including Kinoshita Keisuke, Kurosawa Akira and Shibuya Minori. He joined Nikkatsu in 1954, and got his directorial debut with "Fruit of Madness" two years later. It stirred up quite a sensation with its audacious themes of sex, youth and violence.
