Zhang Ziyi takes over the world--Fast Company magazine

"She's treated [her work] like a business, and that has made her an international star," says Nicole David, senior vice president of the William Morris Agency and Zhang's agent for almost five years. Zhang's team at William Morris now includes three agents, one for commercial endorsements (Maybelline Cosmetics Worldwide and Garnier Skin Care), another for television, and one to search for novels ripe for adaptation. But Zhang isn't using that multimedia platform just to crank up her own career. She also sees her success as a lever: She now evaluates all projects at least partly by whether they can help cultivate and bring more exposure to young Chinese artists.

Universal Studios plans theme park in South Korea

Just stumbled across this bit of news tonight, and I'm still not sure what to make of it. My first reaction is more "bad news" for the Korean film industry, as not only have the American studios chipped away at the film quota, but now they're going to erect a monument to the kinds of movies they're flooding Korean screens with? I mean, I just can't think of too many Korean films that would make for good theme park attractions (hell, I've heard their Dae Jang Geum "theme park" is already on the wane, although that WAS just a refurbished TV series location, really), so I'd worry such a park would almost certainly lean in favour of the same U.S. family-friendly fare that makes up the American park. Or might the Korean developers who are partnering on the deal think they've got the next Tokyo Disneyland on their hands?
