The best line, "I don't eat them myself." Well, I should hope not.

I don't think I can ever look at another cha siu bao again without thinking about this. Maria's wouldn't do this would they?

Hair soy sauce, fake baby milk, recycled mooncake (Brian, beware! )...I got to say I'm always amazed by the mainlander's creativity.

And don't forget the chemical toothpastes, Posthumous Kitty pet food and the perennial favourite, Sorta-Kinda-Disneyland! :D

Speaking of roadside food stalls

Postby ewaffle » Fri Jul 13, 2007 6:40 am

I recall reading that Andy Lau is afraid of rats or anything shaped like a rat--

Here is one reference to it:

Andy Lau is terrified of rats, it was revealed recently. So strong was his dislike for the rodents that cute old Mickey Mouse is on his hate list too. And it explains why the Hong Kong superstar never eats at roadside stalls in a likely rat-infested environment.

“I don’t like rats or anything that is shaped like the animal,” he confessed.

Which is from

http://dailydumpling.com/2007/02/23/andy-lau-is-terrified-of-mickey-mouse/

Which I find pretty strange. I am not particularly afraid, at least in the phobic way, of rats although I do like to keep my distance from disease carrying rodents and the fleas that accompany them.

So I would try to avoid eating anything that was prepared and served in a "rat infested environment" whether a Hong Kong food stall or a diner in New York City.

Yes, that's the one. I never knew the Chinese name, though, thanks.
And lest anyone think Maria has fallen on hard times since 1998 when she lost control of Maria's Bakery. (I wonder who owns the rights now?)
