I am amazed (or still amazed) at how much that celebrities in Hong Kong are willing to put up with representatives of the media. In the USA reporters on this level seem to get ignored or pushed around by beefy bodyguards.

HK actors, singers, etc. must feel they have to deal with them.

Hey Pat Sajak. Whaddaya think about Britney Spears?

I think it depends on whether the celebs (in any country, really) can actually afford bodyguards (or need them), or whether the celebrity's celebrity is largely built on media constructs and the resulting public perceptions rather than an abundance of bankable talent (although even a little of that seems to translate into employment anymore). In the Hong Kong industry, the second factor is a big one for a lot of people in the talent pool (Miriam excepted, of course, but in her early days . . .), not to mention the fact that many in that industry don't make a fraction of what their Hollywood counterparts take home, so any face time they can grab with the media keeps them in the market, so to speak, and being a good sport when asked dumb questions is of paramount importance. Many Hong Kong celebs probably can't afford to be shoving photogs out of their way, whereas over here it's almost a sport. ;)

This is a bit much. If he'd really wanted to off himself, he'd just do it. Starving just garners more attention . . . and pity. The scary part is, if he actually recovers from this whole scandal, he'll be an even bigger and more insufferable tool, if stories about his ridiculous temper and arrogance hold any water.
