Regarding Lydia Shum coverage:

This is an absolutely delightful picture:

This is from one of the articles from "The Standard". In time past I would have thought it kind of strange--actually it still seems odd to include what she was reported to have been eating when she collapsed, although I realize that her girth was part of her persona.

"Last November she collapsed at home and was semi-conscious after reportedly eating six hairy crabs."

That "nest egg" story about Lydia is a real eye-opener. That $60 million is in Hong Kong dollars, which works out to less than $10 million US. Nothing to sneeze at, for sure, but when you realize that many far-less-admired Hollywood celebrities earn that kinda money (and usually more) in just a year—and often act like they deserve so much more—and for one hell of a lot less effort than Lydia did, it's speaks volumes. I still don't consider entertaining to be particularly "hard" work in the traditional sense, but if work-to-pay ratios (as well as visibility indexes, or whatever they're called) were consistent the world over, someone like Lydia Shum (and many of the other mainstays of Hong Kong entertainment) would actually be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and not just a few million. ;)
