Yet another Yao article which highlights the differences (according to the author) between the NBA and Chinese training methods.

The part about how the Chinese team will have him play even if he is still not fully recovered from his injury is disingenuous since professional teams everywhere force/encourage athletes onto courts and fields with injuries, sometimes with medication to numb the pain--which only does more damage.

Grant Hill, when he was the only decent player the Detroit Pistons had, played the last 15 games of an NBA season and one round of playoffs with a broken leg and has never returned to his all star status.

That's a nice article, Ed, thanks.

I was bummed when Yao missed the All-Star game. Now this happens. It will mostly permanently shorten his NBA career. At 28, he should have at least a good half dozen more good years left besides a few more role player years. But now it's hard to guess how many quality years he'll have remaining.

It's something that the Rockets (and NBA teams in general) are going to have to take into account when drafting these huge players. Their bodies are pretty fragile in comparison with average sized people. People over 7' tall have an enormous amount of stress on their legs and feet. Add running up and down the court and jumping and you're bound to have more than the average amount of injuries. Sucks, because Yao was turning into the dominant center in the league. I hope he can heal by the time the Olympics roll around.
