Postby williamwan » Fri Oct 23, 2009 7:48 am

Team Spirit (2000) http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng

Poster name : Female coach and male player

Neglected Youth (1994) http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?i ... ay_set=eng

Poster name : Drowning

Both movies credit tally with the poster.

Can anyone confirm and update?

It's not uncommon to have multiple titles. Distribution in different countries, rereleases, pre-release, acquisitions, etc.

Neglected Youth/Drowning
Both are used here:

Team Spirit, same

I agree that there are many names to a movie.

The question is how shd we choose which name to be used as the title and which as alias.

To the uninitated, it wd be confusing to see movie title different from the poster title.

Since it does not matter which titles to use, as everyone is technically correct, I propose we use the poster title
so that viewer do not mistaken us as having made a mistake.

There are different titles because there are different posters. Maybe we can change a title by the poster and later we found another poster with the other title. What must we do then? The better option is "the most common title is main title".

Agreed. But how to determine which is the most common title? Also, are we posting more than 1 poster on the main page?

Perhap we shd used the title released in the country of origin.

Sometimes the country of origin releases several titles for the same movie. Yes, in the main page of HKMDB appear all the no-landscape posters of a movie although they are not the "main poster" of each entry. How can we determine the most common title of a movie?: Searching them with Google.

I've added links to Variety reviews for both films. WW's titles seem more appropriate in these two cases. In general, I don't think main titles necessarily should be consistent with a particular poster in our db. It may happen to be just one that was available or not watermarked. There are two many reasons a poster does not match a title, especially if the source is unknown or not indicated.
