Anything else ever come of these? I just cross-checked many of the titles above and notice they're still not in the DB. I realize these are mostly retail listings, but many at least offer a couple of cast members, a director and/or a date. Is there no way to set up even a basic entry that can be filled out in the future (even if by future generations? :lol:

)

I did know! I'm just stumbled across this old thread and it reminded me of how much we can't do for this site because of such oppression. In fact, oppression isn't the right word; inflexibility might be more apt. The rules we have in place are fine for what we can do. We just need a few new ones to make the site better.

We can create listings for actors with no names, but not movies with no year? Come on! :lol:

It's information one way or the other. There needs to be a way to include it—even tentatively, and not just in forum threads that end up forgotten—so there's less to do in the future.

This thread turned two years old last month, and still no one came to the party.

Despite how it sounds, I'm optimistic.

Let's face it, we are understaffed and our content is driven by any given editor's specific area of interest. We aren't exactly overwhelmed with conscientious volunteers as far as I can tell. I have no objection to their inclusion but figuring out names,titles,actors, country of origin, year and whether some of these are legit films or videos - previous threads pointed to a lot of a/v titles, while scholastically worthy, is time and energy consuming to research. We barely keep up with legit releases of the latest HK teen idol films (even at current meagre output levels), much less the 200-400 films that the Mainland has put out for the past few decades, much less the pre-1949 era. And then there's TV series! (But we do have Cannonball Run. ) Maybe, we should apply for some stimulus funds and stock up on Red Bull! After 2012, will it even matter? :roll:

Random thought, we should adopt Prometheus as our mascot.

Agreed that a there's bound to be a lot of AV titles if we dig too deep. Many's the time I picked up a dollar VCD that looked like a potential Category III erotic drama or some such, only to have it be something much closer to a softcore skin flick. Of course, some of those actually had plots and production values (and no hardcore), so it's a tricky thing . . .

As I mentioned recently in the Digital Chivvy thread, I provided some (admittedly meager) stimulus funding. So did you and many other generous souls. Then the updates stopped. Imagine if Jerry Lewis did that midway through a telethon!

I'd contribute monthly if there was a monthly tally to know if I was making a difference. I might contribute even more if I knew the Chinese side was paying some dues, as was promised but seemingly not delivered.

After 2012, will it even matter?

Hong Kong will survive. They'll start another reclamation project and go back to making movies for local audiences because the rest of us will be gone and they'll have no choice. I'm telling you, it's gonna happen.

Yes, the trick to add actors without names is "unknown actor..." and the trick to add movies without year is "... is an estimated year". But at least we need the "estimated" year. No estimated year, no addition.

Agreed. Those are the rules. When I submit screen shots for such films, I will do my best to provide an estimated year, as always.

A few years, eh? I wonder how the internet will have evolved by then. And to be fair, assistance was offered in the past, by various people who were willing to give more than just forum contributions and updates within the existing structure of the site, but nothing materialized, so hopefully the lingering frustration (mixed with hope!) is at least understandable. We're all busy with personal matters, for better or worse, which affect our ability to contribute consistently, but trust me, if I only focused on what we can't do here, I'd have given up long ago. More screen shots to come, I guess . . .
