Bad Simplified Character Name mini-project

Of our 96,000+ people, I have several hundred people that did not convert properly from Big5 to GB. So their Simplified Names are malformed UTF-8 encodings that need manual correcting.

So I am asking for some editor assistance with these. I will post 100 of them at a time, and ask for one volunteer for each list of 100. I will simultaneously work on another list myself.

The Edit Basic Info needs to be in English Display, and the Simplified Name needs to be changed here:

Go to UTF-8 search and search for ?

This gives you list of 630 people with malformed Simplified names. Please assist in correcting these:

Some characters cannot be fixed.

Escample: ? cannot be fixed, because its simplified is

? is the same - traditional and simplified. And they work fine.

"Some characters?"

What others are you talking about?

I agree.

In this rapidly changing environment...when you have bug complaints, I need you to provide a picture of exactly what it is you see. And you need to include the location window in the browser. I need details....because details matter in what I do.

Posting three or four words or saying "some characters don't work" really does nothing but waste my time when I could be working on improving or fixing things.

I really want Big5 out of our lives, and it will require a team effort. Thanks and appreciation to all of you that have been eager to help.

For some reason, ? shows up as a ? in the English display for this page: http://hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?id=103854
I don't see what could be causing the problem.

Opps. We ran out of field space on that name. So I have increased the field size there now so we have a 20 character max size limit now on people names. I have corrected the Trad/Simpl characters as well.

When we move these people-companies to companies, I will make the name field much larger to accommodate.

Thanks for remind me of this problem.We should be OK now.
