Seven Men Of Kung-Fu [1978] - update

A less in depth update than for The Secret Rivals, I was looking at the Korean cut of this film for other research but decided to take a few pics and update the page as it seemed a bit empty. Sadly the quality of the footage went from passable to dog s**t, so I couldn't take any great shots, and those that I got are not to my usual standard, but it's better than nothing, hopefully they're not too terrible :P

I also added more data as the Korean cast wasn't listed yet, I also got a few shots of them, unfortunately some of the scenes were that bad I couldn't ID some, but not to worry, they're people that I'll ID at another time, whether on other films or through my Koreans Update Project.

Since Kim Yeong-in was in this film, I decided to take the time to do the update for Unknown Korean Actor (1), moving the two credits (Bruce And Shaolin Kung Fu and Twelve Gates to Hell) to Kim Yeong-In's page, replacing the name on the two images and then deleting the now empty page. I'll put a post about this on ID's thread too, just in case this gets missed.

I believe I'm correct with the ID's I did manage to make, but the Taiwanese guys are my least knowledgeable area and the footage wasn't much to work with so I could be mistaken. I also added a few pics of some I wasn't confident to ID, so if anyone wants to have a crack at them, feel free.

Cheers

To see IDs please go to "Seven Men Of Kung-Fu - IDs" in the Actor Identification section.

Tagged Chiang Ching-Feng and Wang Tai-Lang

could be Ho Wei-Hsiung:

https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/image_detai ... ay_set=eng

is not Su Chen-Ping, it is Chen Chin-Hai (is in the cast)

Also that image is Chen if it shows the same person (not easy to recognize):

Wrong are also the two Lui Wan-Biu image IDs

:D

I agree with you on the pics I tagged as Su Chen-ping, Chen Chin-hai does seem to fit better, particularly the eyes.

As for Lui Wan-biu, you're probably right, he was my least confident of the IDs.

I also agree with you that Ho Wei-shing could be the actor in that pic. Unfortunately that was the best pic I could get of him and watching the footage again didn't help me much either. I'm not confident enough to add that name at this point, but I've no objection to you adding that name if you are confident enough.

Thanks very much for tagging Chiang Ching-Feng and Wang Tai-Lang.

I'll make these corrections now.

Thanks.

But that image

looks not like Chen Chin-Hai only the other two after that. The first image could be Su Chen-Ping :D :D

LOL. I'll go back and have another look, I wanted to go back over it anyway as I believe I've ID'd the other Koreans from my screenshots. Need to double check.

Well mate, I think you're right again

I went back to look over the film and they are two different people with a similar look, but one is hanging out with the villains and the other with the heroes. Plus Su Chen-ping has bigger eyes which match, and also (as can be seen in the new pics I upload) he has a thing going on with his top front teeth that seem to push away from each other, and more noticeably his tooth on the bottom right (his right) is chipped or just misaligned, either way it gives an odd shape to the row. This seems to match several of his other pics on the database.

So I'm happy to change that tag back to Su Chen-ping along with the two new pics, I also added two other pics of Wang Tai-lang. Thanks again for the help Michael.

On a more general note, I was successful in IDing the other Koreans despite the poor quality of the footage making it even more difficult to get a useful shot. It was quite tricky, but fortunately I'm quite familiar with all but one of the Koreans and was able to ID them, and then by process of elimination ID Kang Moon-ho. The pics are definitely not to my usual standard but that's all there was to work with and it's better to have something than nothing :P . Besides, I am going to do a "Koreans update project" for all of them (some sooner than others :) ) so there'll be much better pictures of these guys to work with down the line.

It's funny how much time something you did as a "quick side project" can eat up :P Worth it though.

I was just backing up the Taiwanese cast of this film on my database and one of the credits seemed a bit odd to me. Pretty much all the cast (except one or two of the stars and the Koreans of course) are Taiwanese/Taiwan based except Albert Lai Gin-Kwok whose other film credits appear to be in Hong Kong, the first of which is in 1982, four years after Seven Men Of Kung-Fu. I wonder if there is another actor with the same name?

Also, when looking at Chen Ping (4), there's only two credits with a gap of 34 years, I think it's safe to say they're not for the same Chen Ping.

I also find it very likely that the 賴建國 and 陳平 in the cast are different people with the same names.

Albert Lai bio from http://www.hkfilmdirectors.com:

Jianguo was born in Hong Kong in 1953. Joined Hong Kong TVB in 1976. A few years later, Chen Xinjian tried his best to invite him to make a movie, but he declined. A year later, Chen Jiasun invited him to make a 1960s music and musical film "Herbal Tea Ponytail Airplane Head" (1982), which did not perform well at the box office. However, he made several well-received TV series such as "Struggle" (1978), "Man in the Net" (1979) and "Rainbow" (1979) in TVB. At the same time, he and Zheng Zeshi created the film script "Uncle and Nephew, Shrinking", which was introduced to Liang Li Shaoxia by Chow Yun-fat and Zhang Guozhong, and produced by Zhucheng Film Company invested by her.

Thanks for the extra info. I guess that I'll change it in a few days unless anyone objects?
