Review REQUEST: Osaka Wrestling Restaurant

Sounds like a winner to me! I saw it in the store today, but was hesitant to actually get it. I think I'll get a bootleg to check it out first and if it's good I'll get a real copy.

Well I Have it and seen it. In my opinion it was a fair at best comedy. If you are into wrestling and want to see wrestlers or wrestling on film then stay away from this there is little or no wrestling. The story is basically about 2 brothers trying to start a restaurant using Osaka Pro wrestling as the hook to bring in customers. Compeitors and gangstaers provide opposition for their business goals. Ho-hum.

Is there at least some fighting in it and some over the top humour? Compared to Anna in Kung Fu land, how does it fair?

The fighting is more of a slapstick nature. In the finale the 2 brothers fight in the ring against 2 henchmen. Basically they do some very sloppy clotheslines and flop around the ring. The other "fight scenes" consisted of characters being chased throughout the streets of Hong Kong. It was not over the top humor. It just wasn't funny to me. Especially the overly homosexual caracter who was a transexual waiter who constantly made passes at the 2 lead characters. Listen this is just my opinion. I really was hoping for a good film as I am both a fan of HK film & wrestling from Japan. I was very disappointed in this movie.[/i]

Just watched it last night. Wow, it's really bad. The production value is so low, it looks as if it were made in the 80's, even though it's a new movie. The humour in it isn't even funny. There was lots of potential with the ideas, but they were all misses due to poor directing and editting. There were I think 3 wrestling scenes all together in this entire movie, none of them were particularly interesting. The gay character wasn't even remotely funny, I just couldn't figure out why they would hire him to work at the restaurant, plot wise. They were looking for athletic people who could pass off as wrestlers, so they hire a flamingly gay guy? It would make sense to use him as comic relief, but he's not even there for that. I was hoping that this movie would be so bad that it's good, but it's not quite bad enough to fall into that category. Oh yeah, and Sammo Hung is nothing more than a cameo, even though he's on the DVD cover (just because he's Sammo Hung)
