Well it's kind of like why do so many HK films talk about the Shaolin Temple or Wong Fei Hung. Many chinese movies are based on actual people, places or documented facts. As well as using famous folklore to inspire films. Thus you will find many characters or stories more than once being referenced in a number of films. Thats just part of chinese film culture.
