The soundtrack to GOLDEN CHICKEN 2

Postby Brian Thibodeau » Fri Jan 14, 2005 3:33 pm

I love the music in this movie. I've been a fan of canto-pop for years now, but rarely have I heard such a good mix of songs on a soundtrack. I'm wondering if someone here might be able to help me fill in a few blanks though.

I was able to detect the following singers:

George Lam (4 songs)
Jacky Cheung (1 song)
Ronald Cheng (2 songs)
Ronald Cheng & Sandra Ng (1 song)

But there are a few songs I'm having trouble with:

Two songs over the closing credits. The first sounds like it might be an 80's tune (complete with swelling orchestras and such), the second is a lovely duet. The credits in the movie are too small on my screen to read properly. One of the singers of the duet, however, also sings another song listed on the soundtrack. There's ANOTHER song by someone named, according to the Yes Asia listing, Weng Chien-yu. Who is this, and is this person the one who sings the first song over the closing credits?

Finally, I'm dying to get my hands on this soundtrack for the opening number, "Kowloon, Hong Kong" which SOUNDS like some old 60's number but again, the singer's name is listed only in Chinese at Yesasia.

Here's the link to the yesasia soundtrack listing, which has all the tracks in Chinese only. If someone might help me with these songs, it would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to know if I have other pieces by any of them in my Hong Kong music collection.

You are right, Mr. Dleedlee,
翁倩玉 Weng Chien Yu is "our" Judy Ongg

She was born in Taiwan in 1950. At the age of two years she went to live in Japan, where she debuted as actress in a stage play at the age of 8. At the age of 12 she debuted in movies with "Big Wave" (1961, Japan/USA), and debuted as singer in 1966. Also dubbed 003 in the animated film series "Cyborg 009" (1966-67). After a few films more she returned to Taiwan and later to Hong Kong to make movies. Her first film in Taiwan was "Petite Wife" (1970) and from 1971 she has been awarded with the Golden Horse several times; also gained reputation with the film "Call Girl" (1973). And from the late 70s she has been awarded in Japan for several musical hits, as "Charmed". From 1973 she has published more than a dozen of albums. Most famous movies: "Zu, Warriors From the Magic Mountain" (1982) and "The Pillow Book" (1996). Nowadays she is still recording songs, playing theatre and TV dramas in Japan and Hong Kong.
