Well I've seen them all except for the Prequel which I will soon. Born to be King is part 6 of the series. 1 & 2 were the best to me all though I liked all of them with the exception of number 5 which in my opinion is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.<br><br>

I guess I agree that they have to be watched in order.
They all have some merit...but 1,2 and 3 are far superior to the others.

The prequel was fine... and Portland street Blues I think was the best of the spin offs.

so far i've seen 1-4 and already order 5 and born to be king....
right now, i think 3 was the best, first because the how Ekin CHeng got frame was really good. Also the death of some of the character was shocking and sad. Also the bad guy did a very good job...

1 and 2 are the best. 3 was flawed but good, especially after adding in Karen Mok to cast. 4 didn't break any new ground, but reinforced the tragic violence of being a triad--so it was okay. 5 was an interesting try, but was probably the weakest of the lot. I liked the prequel although there was nothing memorable about it--I may have to watch it again. #6 was an attempt to revamp the series and the story and it made me interested again in the series and characters. Portland Street Blues is the spin-off movie and some great acting by Sandra Ng and Hsu Chi.

There's also Those were the days, but this kind of messes up and changes the story of Y and D. So I'd watch 1-5, the prequel, Portland St. Blues, then Those Were the Days and #6.

I thinkto keep it totally in orde you would need to watch Portland Street Blues before 5 so you know the story behind Sandra Ng's character.

4and 5 are definitely the weakest of the series

probably because Ekin didn't really want to make them and they wouldn't pay Jordan his required fee for 5 which is why he wasn't in it.

I also think after they killed off Gigi Lai the directors weren't sure where to go with the story line and so 4 is kind of muddled.

And then there is the ressurection from the dead of the cast which is a big flaw.... well maybe not as big as having annoying Shu Qi in it.... IMHO

same guy Yu Yeung, Crow and Akira..... this guy get's reincarnated fast.

and then Michael Tse re- emerges as a bad guy in 6 - BTBK

I've seen the first three installments of "Young And Dangerous". The Prequel, part one and part two. I greatly enjoyed all of them and I am very anxious to rent the others. I'm able to rent them from my public library system along with other Hong Kong movies. I'm in Boston/Cambridge USA.[/b]

Young and Dangerous really are entertaining in it´s own little way, and Im glad that there are so many different opinions on each part. Im currently have part 1-4 in my collection and cant wait to get my hands on the rest of the series . Guess Im very addicted to it.. The more I watch them the more interesting the story becomes, so I got to watch them all, its just the way it is.

I have got Y&D 1-5, The Prequel, Born To Be King and Portland Street Blues all on dvd. Personally I think the first three were all great movies (but hardly qualify for greatest gangster movies ever) in terms of style and visuals (Andrew Lau was cinematographer on Wong Kar-Wai's "As Tears Go By"). The movies all have a good soundtrack and the performances by Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Karen Mok, Sandra Ng and Anthony Wong amongst others are worthy of recognition. The fourth installment was good but nothing original, part 5 is the weakest, yet the character work was pretty detailed and the film moved at a slow pace. The Prequel was a really good movie, good action, an okay script and launch for new talent such as Nic Tse and Sam Lee. Born To Be King was a good movie, the filmmaking was better in terms of budget, quality, set pieces and cinematography and the script was also pretty good. Portland Street Blues is a different kind of Y&D movie, more artistic than commercial with good performances and a really good script.

Wich one of the Young and Dangerous-parts is the most violent?

One reason to watch these in sequence, regardless of differing opinions of their worthiness, is to see the style of filmmaking deliberately evolve throughout the series: as the main characters mature, so do the techniques used in making the films, with each one just a little more polished than the one before it, culminating in the slick BORN TO BE KING, which virtually abandons the documentary-style handheld cameras particularly dominant in the first three installments in favour of more assured, mature work with dollies and cranes. One of the few cases, in Andrew Lau's canon and much of popular Hong Kong cinema, where the cinematic style so cleverly complemented the maturation of the characters.

Just ordered War of The Underworld, it´s not related to the Y&D-series but to the rewiews I read this far it´s a great triad-movie, and last but not least Jordan Chan is starring
